Ok...here is a pic of my daughters chicken...I think she is depressed now that school is out...when school was in...she would go out to the front porch about 1/2 an hour before the bus was due to come...and she would sit there and wait for my daughter to get home...then she would go to the barn to get fed..and held of course...now...with school out...she was going to the porch...but the bus doesn't come...even though my daughter plays with her...she still was going out there...now she walks around the yard...with her head hanging down...and she acts depressed...poor chicken...hope she perks back up when school goes back...she even quit laying eggs...poor baby is sad..nothing to look forward to...

is she losing feathers and how are her droppings. i dont think that school being out is the problem usually there is more to look at how was she the day before school was out whats her age could is she the only chicken you have if so she could be lonley chickens are very social and they need a chicken friend or two

Maybe your daughter needs to "appear" at the normal time for a few days to see if that perks up the hen?

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe the hen was used to the routine and without that routine she doesn't know what to do with herself? I think it is an internal clock thing - school bus time equals feeding time in her mind.

I dunno, it's a thought anyway.
