Oh my goodness. I have been a chicken owner now for since April 2nd. We have been letting our 2 girls (

Last night though, I only left open the nesting box lid. When I went to check on them, Stacey was in the coop, and Emma was no where to be found!

I searched high and low, behind the fence, in the neighbors' yards. I even went next door and asked my neighbor if she had seen my lost chicken.

So, this morning, I woke up to the sound of birds chirping in in the backyard, and got out the mag light on round 15 of the hunt for Emma. I was envisioning having to tell my youngest daughter that her chicken was lost.

Finally, I looked up in the tree, 10 feet in the air, right next to the coop. And who do you think was in there? Emma.

If only I had looked directly over the coop, I could have saved myself a ton of worry.

So, all you newbies out there.... If you lose your precious chicken, look up. Not in the neighbors yard. Not in the scrub behind your fence. In the tree. Next to the coop. Because your chicken is probably just having a good ole snooze as close to home as she can get.

I'm glad your chicken was ok. I have a similar story. I was taking care of my chickens one night and I couldn't find my hen Red. I looked everywhere. I had lost hope. I went in the barn to take care of the other chickens. I have these pieces of wood on the inside roof of my barn. I am running and I see something. my first thought was is that a bat. I only got a small look at the bird like animal. I was running so fast I ran passed it. I turned around looked up and there she was I had found Red. I was so relieved. She was right next to the coop all along. I was looking through all 40 acres of my property when she was right there all along.
