I had 8 chickens - 2 left to me with the house I purchased...4 about a year old ......and 2 that dies in past month. first acted stand offish with other birds, separated her, wormed them all. She seemed better but died within a week by suffocating w/ lung fluid. 2nd one acted same, separated her, dead within 3 hrs. Had 1st one checked by Purdue and they say Marek's. Today I see two more shaking heads, stand offish and scratching face.

I am hearing birds from the hatcheries come vaccinated but you have to request the one for Mareks. I don't know if any of mine were ( I did not buy direct from hatchery). is there anything I can do to not lose the other 6 :( So Sad and feel helpless! Any thoughts or advice would be great!! thank you the 2 chickens that died arrived together with 1 other so I took the 3rd to vet after 2 died because I thought it was respiratory disease...but she had no parasites and her lungs were clear then..

So sorry to hear. It is a miserable disease. I believe I have it in my flock - although I am not sure if any of my chickens who have died have actually died of Marek's.

There is an article here about someone learning to live with Marek's in their flock. It might be helpful.

And this gives some of the basics on the disease itself.

Thank you - I have not lost any more in the past 4 weeks but won't add any at this point unless vaccinated and plan to clean the coop as well as I can
