Today I lost 6 chics, 2 were with me for a month and a half. I woke up this morning after the first round of storms to find a foot of water in my backyard. They were floating dead. Only one bigger one made it. I still have no idea her breed but I picked her up at a feed store along with the other 2 older ones. They were always together. The dead were 3 barred rocks and 3 black australorps. 4 of the dead were 2 weeks or younger :-(. Heres a pic of all of them together right before the storm ready to sleep.

What in the world were those little chicks doing out in your backyard during a major storm? They should have been cooped up with no way to get out in case they panic and run out in the rain, etc., which is what might have happened. Sorry that these little animals drowned...

I never thought that area would flood where they were at because we have had nasty storms before and it never did.

I wouldn't keep 2 week old chicks outside overnight in any case, let alone in a storm. Also, your chicken box does not have a roosting spot (which would have saved their life if they drowned in the box) and barely any straw nor does there seem to be a window if the front closes (unless the window is in the front). There is a lot of good information on this site how to accommodate chickens of different ages so that they are comfortable and safe from predators and weather.
