Lost Generations - how long does it take ??

I have become so infatuated with the RHODEBARS !!!
So I was wondering,,,,,, if you buy some Rhodebar eggs from the internet.....
and the seller "claims" they are from such and such line .......... (Greenfire Farms, for example)

how long - or how many generations does it take to loose the "true to breed" status
to the point that the birds are not show quality - or, just loose the looks of the true breed ?

Just wondering - before I spend a buncha money on eggs from 18th generation chickens
that might (or might not) give me less that what I am looking for.

any advice ?

Search the Net, archive.org, Google Books, and hathidigitaltrust libraries for info on the breed. You may stumble
across breeding advice, great when you are breeding a crossbred bird.

Rhodebars are not a Cross, but an stablished Autosexing Breed, you could say they are an Autosexing Rhode Island Reds, they are homozygous for all of their genes, they are as much of a breed as any other autosexing breed out there, like the Legbars

its a True Breed but it has lost many of the Good Quality that once had when it started, back in the day they were just like Rhode Island Reds but with the Autosexing genes wildtype and Sex linked Barring... say if you want to improve them and want to breed them, I would Advise you to start a breeding program with good Quality Rhode Island Reds to re introduce the RIR type, body and production qualities to the Rhodebar autosexing breed

Hi John,
Nicalandia really is an expert. if you get advice from nicalandia, you can take it to the bank. This is good stuff.
