Lost my beloved guinea to a weasel... one injured, one dead, and one escaped unscathed.

I’m so sorry about your guinea peep. 😞
I’m sure the weasels must have been desperate for food to hold their ground like that. I always worry about them. Sneaky little things.
I hope your girl Tiny pulls through. Her progress sounds promising. Guineas can be tough at times. I had a girl pull through a very rough bout with my dog.
I do caution that these pictures are pretty graphic.

Her neck, the skin at least. Was tore open. She also had puncture wounds you can’t see under her wings. It looked so bad. I did not think she would make it, but she did! She is still with the flock now and you can’t tell which one she is anymore. I’ve been trying to identify her by the white markings on her neck, but have yet to get pictures of the right one.

I hope the very best for your girl!

Thanks so much for the condolences.
They definitely were desperate. I’m suprised that they hadn’t bothered the guineas before that. Glad your guinea made a full recovery and hope Tiny will too.
Wow. Just by the looks I’m suprised that your guinea pulled through. They must be pretty strong creatures. She seems to be doing better today. I cleaned the wound out with some sailine sprayed down the puncture with vetricyn and wrapped it as suggested earlier. Now if only she’ll leave the wrap on.
Really appreciate the advice and condolences. :hugs

I got a picture of her! Of course I’d be able to find her now that I said I couldn’t before. Haha.
Left is her a short time after she joined the flock and the right was just taken this morning.
The two white spots on her neck are the only way I can identify her. Well, that and she’s one of only a few females that have wattles that hang down like the males.

An update:
Tiny seems to be on the road to recovery. She didn’t tolerate the bandage and I couldn’t get it to stay on. She is still breathing bad and sometimes open mouth (you can see in the second picture). She is however in much higher spirits, eating, drinking, and acting herself. I let both of them out today and sat with them for a while. She mostly sat down but she walked around a bit. I’ve been spraying her puncture wounds with vetricyn and they’re looking ok. They’re hard to see under her feathers but the one near her chest is pretty large. She’s still putting her head close to her body and has a hunched stance most of the time.

Ever since the ordeal the male (bandit) has been extremely aggressive. I was sitting by tiny and he kept running at my back and pecking me. He has never showed this behavior. I cannot go within 5 feet of him without him attacking me now. It is very upsetting. :(

I set a trap for the weasel but didn’t catch it. Sneaky little guy! :he:mad:

here’s tiny today when she sat in the sun. Looking ok.
