Lost one of my favorite hens!-Update-Last Page-Great News!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope she comes back to you tonight-- she prob. will. Ds and I had a chick chasing "incident" this morning-- they sure were happy to be free LOL (we got them all back in the pen though)

After my first panic-stricken chick-chasing incident, I always keep some grapes on hand. My pullets are NUTS over grapes (they remind me of the seagulls on Finding Nemo..."Mine? Mine?"). It's a sure-fire way for them to come when you want.

Sure hope your find your 'lil gal.

Hope she comes back. When ever I lose a bird, especially a young one to the mercy of the adults that run free, I just let them go and not even try to catch them, because I find that they won't go far as long as they stay in ear shot of their peers, they will hunker down near them at night and you can catch them in the dark.

I went on a long trip looking for her. No success. She is a great flyer, espeically for being half silkie. But there are a lot of predators around here. I shouldn't have chased her. I feel awful. Although I have never killed a bird on purpose, do ypou know how many times I have killed/injured/lost them on accident?? Like a bazzilion. From trying to save weak chicks to releasing birds so they can live a happy life. I let about 20 birds go last summer and fall, and very few are still alive.

Great News!!!!!!!!!! I haven't been on in a few days, so here is what happened. Friday, my dad was building my coop, and he said he saw her!! But by the time I got there, Frankie the bantam free range roo chased her off.

 The next day I go to walk my goat, Stella, and I see her on the path, but she disapears. Sunday evening, I am in my new coop looking at my happy chickies, and I here commotion in the garage, where Frankie and a hen friend run loose. I thought a dog was in there, but I see Frankie trapping Raven [lost hen] in a corner!! I rush over and pick her up!! She looks like she is in shock. I have no where to put her, so I put her with my two sultan hens and a silkie roo, since they are very calm. She was very hungry. She is doing great. I am NEVER letting her run loose again!!! Thank you all for the support, I never though I would see Raven again. I didn't realy believe all of you when you said she would come back, since I made a post like this on a goat forum when we purchased a pygmy doe and her doe kid at a sale barn, and as soon as we got home, they broke out of their pen, and we haven't seen them since and that was March 2007. Thanks yall!!!!!!!!!!

They were SUPER wild goats. The birds I released were chickens, and some guineas which all died. And no, I didn't take them to some old abandoned house in the woods with nothing to eat. I released them in our goat barn, near our house, with roosts, food, water, etc. And some in our garage. But my mom would accidently release our dog, a chicken killer, and you couldn't catch him and he was a very fast husky and kiled a few, some were killed by wild animals, one was killed by our donkey, and a few just died. I am so happy to have Raven back!!
