Lost our kitty... (sad post)

Thanks everyone. We have missed him terribly, but we will never forget him. We often joked that he had sexual identity confusion, because when we brought him home, we thought he was a "she" and named him Roxy. It wasn't until he was about 6 months old that we noticed our error! So he became Mister Roxy.
Poor Lily has been smothered in love and cuddles these last few days, and not allowed to roam around the yard without supervision.. she's still trying to figure out why Will and I won't leave her alone!!
Another thing Mister taught us, is that we are going to be extra sure that the chicken run and coop are secure before our girls go to live outside!

Thanks for the hugs and prayers.. it has helped Will and I cope.

So sorry to hear about your cat. It is so hard to loose a loved one. May he rest in peace

Tom cats lead very dangerous lives. They roam and always look for fights. FIV/Fel Leuk is becoming more prevalant too and is passed thru fighting & mating. Please neuter your next tom. It will make his life easier and longer and healthier.

Barney was the resident tom at the farm when my husband and I got married. He was a scraggly skinny old man, missing quite a few teeth. Now he is fat, has a wonderful shiny coat and doesnt fight. (I cant help him with his teeth)

Sorry for your loss.

I have heard and read many times that outdoor cats are lucky to make it 2 years, just so many things can happen to them.

My brother just lost his momma cat, she left him 3 little 2 week old boys and I lost my little pregnant momma cat, all to a coyote. We are hunting him now, I have lots a lot of ducks and a few chickens. So sorry about your little guy, I know how you feel. Lots of people say you shouldn't let them outside, its safer for them, which is true, but cats are never really happy being locked up in the house. All of mine lives a full fun life indoor/outdoor, chasing birds and grasshoppers, laying in the sun, etc.

I am so sorry for your loss... it truly is heart breaking to lose a member of your family like that. As sad as it is, I am glad that you found him to give him the burial that he deserved, and to know what happened to him so that you don't always wonder and keep looking.

And for what it's worth, neutering may keep them from wandering as much, but they will still fight to defend their territory. Most of my boys are neutered, and they are still a force to be reckoned with.

Farm cats and farms go hand in hand. It always wise to spay and neuter those cats. A neutered tom may still fight, but he wont wander as much and will still hunt mice. Cats can be happy and content indoors..but not all cats. My mom allows hers to go inside and outside at their wish. Take a look at the shelters in your area and you will find it full of unwanted and homeless cats. Dont continue the cycle...end of my soap box on spay/neuter

Again, I am so sorry that you lost your cat. I know how terrible I would feel losing any of mine. My thoughts are with you.

We definately plan on finding a good cat at a local shelter.. Mister was a rescue cat as well, that we got from a friend who also has a farm. I knew the time had come to have him neutered, but had not gotten to it when I should have. A lesson learned, the hard way. Mister was the first Tom we have ever had, and I have to be honest, I had no idea what to expect from a tomcat.. as our Lily was so different in behavior and temperment.

a neutered tom most likely turns into a loveable cat, my four have. Two were strays that found there way to my place when they were already adults. They are so sweet. Good luck on finding your next "loverboy".
