I lost a mutant pheasant hen a few days ago, she flew off and I could not catch her.

Today my phone rings and its my dad, he said he saw her 100 yards up my driveway, I ran down there with a net and was actually able to catch her. Her tail feathers are all gone and he is scalped, almost all of her skin on her head is gone and her skull is visible, she seems fine, the first thing she did after I finally put her down was get a big drink and rub up on the male mutant.

What do I do about her head?

I would strongly recommend clean best you can (water only) and then use BlueKote to cover the entire area. This is the best protection I know for a wound like that. (Where gloves and try to isolate it to the area as much as possible. It does NOT come off easy.)

i would clean it with best i could then put antibiotic ointment on it to soften and i always sew up all my chickens and animals. If I do not have regular stitches like you buy I have used sewing needle and white thread. The area has to be clean to sew it up no old debris. So if injury is old you may have to keep antibiotic ointment on it for day or so to be able to clean it without making them bleed terrible. Just make sure antibiotic ointment isn't one with pain killer in it cause that kills poultry. Many people on here want to heal all wounds open but it is much easier on bird and they heal faster to sew wounds up. Just takes few stitches to make world of difference on your animal. On head wound you can pull skin up tight from neck area to cover head best you can I just sewed chicken up bout 5 days ago. You have to make sure bird is eating cause they tend to not eat or drink when injured. I always give injured bird 1 cc penicillin under skin to cover infection
