Hello from Maine. I am a new duck owner. Got my 8 ducks as newborns. They are about 4 months old. I have 3 pekins, 3 chocolates, and 2 mallards. Just recently i have realized that im pretty sure all of my ducks are males except one of my mallards. They seem to be ganging up her. Any suggestions on how to deal with this? I have heard of females being killed and i would be devastated if that happens.

Separate her and the mallard drake from the others. Drakes gang breeding hens frequently results in in juries or death.

Glad you joined us! :)

I would either get more females, get rid of all but one of the males, or separate your female with one of your males to keep her company. that many males can really tear up a lone female. Good luck with your ducks!

I seperated her and the other mallard yesterday. I saw some red flags and thought it was a good idea to get her out of there. What is he average ratio of male to female? I think I am going to have to part with one or two of my Pekins. They are bullying the other ducks by pulling out feathers and pouncing on them.

The mallard and the smaller grey and brown duck look like hens, It's hard to tell with the pekins. Preferably it's best to keep at least 3 hens per drake if possible.

Really? All of the Browns are getting green heads and have tail feathers that curl how can i tell for sure if the browns are male or females?

I've heard the curled tail feather is the mark of a drake. You can post on the "Duck thread," for advice from folks that raise ducks. Sorry I don't know much about them.

Sounds like the best advise is to either get more females, get rid of all but one male, or separate them. Good luck deciding what to do.
