Haha, my loudest hens are most definitely my two silkies 😆😆 They will carry on doing egg songs for other hens too! They’re so loud for being so tiny!! 😆
YASSSSSS!!!! My son says they sound like they got their toes stepped on: "owowowowOwOwOwOWOWOWOW!!!!"

Mine are louder than my ducks - even my big ol' bossy Pekin!
🤣 🤣 🤣

(I'll see if I can get video of them tomorrow)

There’s been a TON of questions on BYC about which chickens to avoid in a neighborhood because they are loud. I thought it might be helpful to some members if people shared info in one general spot in a poll.

If you check any breeds you own that our LOUD, then write your quietest breeds in the comments. I’m only including large/standard fowl in the poll and could only pick 20 so tried to find the most common, but feel free to add your loud bird breed in an extra comment!
I have flock of 21, a melting pot of several breeds including Brahmas, Orpington, Wyandotte, Rhode Island Red and some kind of Easter Egger. I never hear anything but a gentle cluck from anybody unless a rooster or other predator gets after them.

It seems that EEs can have a lot of variation, especially considering their backgrounds. I have 11 EEs currently and all the ones I have are quiet, except for one, but even that one is rarely loud. Vanilla, my Leghorn does like to show off her egg song though...especially in her youth.
It's really the individual more than the breed, I think. But the more active breeds seem to like to prolong the egg song for as long as possible. It can be annoying but if I laid an egg I'd probably get vocal too.

I agree, in my experience it seems like it's got a lot to do with the individual birds personality more than the breed. Of the hens that I have more than one of the breed, I think there is one loud one and the other is quite, with the exception of my Dutch Bantams, Silkies, and OEGB's, which are all chatty and loud most of the time * their voices are so adorable though 😍 with their miniature selves 💜 Here is just one example of one of my OEGB's. She knows that I just adore their voices, maybe....
