Thanks! Needless to say, I'm very pleased with them.

I for one would like to know how you don't have any mud???

Actually, their pen IS soaking wet. It rained all day yesterday. I have some pine woodchips down to help absorb the moisture. Their feeder is taken apart because the food in it was soaking wet. I took it apart for it to dry out. Without the woodchips they would be very muddy. Incidently, their kennel is the only one that does not have a roof. I recently moved the dog to free up some space because the Coronations had long outgrown their pen. I haven't had a chance yet to put a cover on it.

Wow, your sussex are absolutely awesome. I can't wait to get over there to see them in a few weeks. If chickens could be considered regal, then that would be those birds.

Wow Two from Sulphur.. Must be the chicken capital of Louisiana...

Anyone out there celebrate Mardi Gras? Well, I don't but many of my family and friends do.

The reason that I asked is because I wanted to know if anyone has ever been approached by someone who wanted to know if they could "borrow" one of your chickens for the "Mardi Gras Chicken Run"? Every year someone is always asking me. And by the time, I have given them the evil eye, and explained to them that I woud never think about putting my chickens through such an abusive, cruel and tortuous ordeal, I think they get the picture. How evil and cruel would I be to allow someone, ANYONE, borrow one of my beloved chickens so that a group of drunk people could chase this poor chicken to death???? I hope that I don't offend anyone who participates in this activity (and allows their chickens to participate) but all of the chicken runs that I have seen on TV are the ones with loud, obnoxious people with cans of beer in their hands, stumbling around. Maybe there are some chickens runs with sober people who chase chickens but it's just not my cup of tea. Again, I do not mean to offend anyone who participates in the Mardi Gras Chicken Run but to ask someone to borrow their chicken so that a group of people can run it in the ground is kinda insensitive. What are your thoughts?

Hi all & thanks for the good wishes. Surgery went pretty well, I was about the last patient of the day so we were late getting home. The Dr. fixed my knee but unfortunately found extensive arthritis in it too, guess all those years of horseback riding & everything else have caught up w/me - but he said it can be controlled & so I don't have to worry about knee replacement for a long, long time, if ever, so that's good! He debrided a lot of the arthritic tissue so wooooo is it ever sore today!

Ya'll can relate to this: got up at 2 a.m. (caved in & took a pain pill) and heard one of my blue orps -- little booger had gotten out of the brooder in the utility room & was behind the freezer!!! so I had to get the broom & herd him back out. A cover went on it today. They still have 2 more weeks inside before I can move them to the big brooder outside w/a heat lamp.

Gorgeous Sussex! those might have to go on my "wish list"!

Kuntrygirl, I'm with you all the way on your post -- Jim used to work w/some guys in Lafayette who rode in the Courier du Bois & yes, they do get very rowdy (like, start the day toasting the sunrise w/a cold beer and you can take it from there). Sorry, no chickens from this household! not even mean roosters!
Looking forward to seeing you next weekend hopefully, -- looks like we might have decent weather by then!

OK through icing this knee so back to bed for me!
