"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Has anyone gotten wipped by a rooster as bad as I did Sunday before last..
The only mean one I had. I always keep roosters with spurs trimmed but failed to trim him. I had a guy that wanted to buy him even though he was a man hater. When I reached in to grab him he smoked me bad. Bite marks, spurs went in deep in two places.. When i looked and could see a small but kind of deep hole I was like holey poop.. the pics where taken the next day at noon.. I went to the doctor and he said the first layer of skin where red was getting infected and he put me on antibiotic that are also a sulphur drug for bacteria.. crazzy

I was going to ask whether you had roo gumbo that night, but I think Terri said it better! Gator bait! LOL

Oh trust me I wanted to make a gumbo with him. I usually cull mean roos and send them to freazer camp. Definetly dont breed with them. It was a guy I know and last of the blood line around and he insisted. But when I finally got a hold of the bird I had his legs in one hand and neck in the other hand and ask him "You sure you want him, I will ring his neck right now and take him home and eat him" lol

Ouch..... I wouldn't put up with it either. Especially if you have young ones that go around the birds. What might be a waist high jump to us could be face level to them

Yea chickens should be enjoyable and not have to worry about getting flocked by them. I raise game chickens so he was single penned like the rest and my little girl knew he was "the mean one" and not to stick her hand between to wire to fill his feed cup like she likes to do to the rest. lol

Hey there Cadjien!! Oh yes, I've had a few roosters jump me too. The one that got me the worst was a White Leghorn Rooster. I still have scars on my leg from his spurs. He caught me by surprise with my back turned to him. The strategy that I learned to use is that when they try to jump at me the first time -- I try to kick them with pretty good force across their pen. If they get up and come at me again -- I kick them again just to let them know that the 1st kick was not an accident. From then on they will usually think twice before they attempt to jump me again. One of my roosters used to head in the opposite direction when I'd enter the pen out of respect for my hierarchy in the pen. I have had a couple of roosters though that were just meaner than hell and I couldn't break them from jumping me. They made good gumbo!! I don't want to sound mean but as you learned it becomes a matter of safety. Certainly an issue if children are around.

Well, good luck to your friend and his hens. It is a beautiful roo.

I'd like to be in your thoughts the next few days--I have finally found someone with a lavender orpington rooster to replace mine that is of age--he's almost a year. He will be shipped to me from Tennessee on Thursday using Express. I'm praying he's at Anacoco PO Saturday morning and I don't have to go on the hunt and drive somewhere to save him from sitting all day on Sunday. I NEED THIS ROO!

I have people constantly seeing my pullets and asking for chicks... Hoping for the best.

I pretty much always have a couple Lavender Orp cockerels available. I have at least 1 right now if anyone is interested. Just PM me. Gotta come catch up over here after I get off work!
