"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I'd like to be in your thoughts the next few days--I have finally found someone with a lavender orpington rooster to replace mine that is of age--he's almost a year.  He will be shipped to me from Tennessee on Thursday using Express.  I'm praying he's at Anacoco PO Saturday morning and I don't have to go on the hunt and drive somewhere to save him from sitting all day on Sunday.  I NEED THIS ROO! :fl I have people constantly seeing my pullets and asking for chicks...  Hoping for the best.

I hope he makes it to you safely! I shipped 2 Basque boys to Ohio yesterday and I'm nervous because they haven't been scanned since they left the sort facility.

If any of you ever have birds shipped and want them picked up from the Baton Rouge sort facility to keep them from traveling by truck an extra day, I'd be happy to pick them up and meet you with them. I work just a mile or so from the facility.

Thank you. I can't wait until my white peacock gets his train. :)
Wow, your peas are gorgeous!
Has anyone gotten wipped by a rooster as bad as I did Sunday before last.. The only mean one I had. I always keep roosters with spurs trimmed but failed to trim him. I had a guy that wanted to buy him even though he was a man hater. When I reached in to grab him he smoked me bad. Bite marks, spurs went in deep in two places.. When i looked and could see a small but kind of deep hole I was like holey poop.. the pics where taken the next day at noon.. I went to the doctor and he said the first layer of skin where red was getting infected and he put me on antibiotic that are also a sulphur drug for bacteria.. crazzy My right forearm Top view of my right arm. that swollen red area is the outer right side of my right arm.
I have a meanie that needs to go in the gumbo pot soon. It's such a shame because he is so beautiful, but he absolutely hates my husband and one of my sons. They can't go in the pen with him; he's dangerous.

X2 I am in Baton Rouge and retiring in May and would be happy to intervene and prevent any animal from spending extra time in transit. I almost lost my kitty that way, stuck in Houston by incompetence.

Morning La-yers! taking a quick break here - we're repairing/stripping/refinishing our patio furniture -- a little table & 2 Adironack chairs we built several years ago. Hopefully it'll be dry enough this weekend we can get them repainted. IDK, seems like once I get started on something like this, everywhere I look I see something else needs to be touched up/redone -- just noticed my kitchen cabinets need touching up! Have a good one everybody!

I noticed they're slow to update their tracking site. I was so worried when I shipped a trio of RIRs to my cousin last year because they didn't update until he was already there picking them up!

Don't know if it's true but saw a news blurb that said the USPS is going to make an announcement soon that they are no longer going to be delivering mail on Saturdays-- but it did say they would continue to deliver packages on Saturdays. Hopefully I will never have to worry about shipped eggs again now that I have my little Welsummer & Cuckoo Marans flocks hatched out & growing!

I was reading something online about a Livestock Show in Baton Rouge and I noticed where they were advertising meat. I'm assuming it's the animals from the show?

Anyway, the cost of the lamb caught my attention. For $175.00, you can get a lamb (50 lbs of meat) - processing fee is not included in that $175.00. So, that is $3.50 a lb which isn't bad. Looking at the price, I'm glad that I take mine to the slaughter house because I get about 100 lbs of lamb for $50.00 (including processing fee). So, my cost is $0.50 per lb. But then you have to average in the cost of feed and hay which is minimal, along with them eating grass.

200 lbs of pork for $200.00 (processing fee is not included in that). One whole goat (40 lbs of meat) for $150.00 processing fee is not included in that). 228lbs of beef for $462.50 (processing fee is not included in that). Pretty good prices. I would surely be interested in some of that goat.
