"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Hi All

I live in Franklin, LA and have just signed up to BYC. I have no chickens at this time but have ordered some Cherry Egg Layer pullets and one rooster. Also ordered some Banty Americanas (blue/green) egg layers with a rooster.

Gee all of you down south stay safe! weather map looks absolutely horrible in your area!

Oh man is it HORRIBLE here!! We're under a tornado watch right now and I can believe it. It's insane. Within about 10 minutes the yard was a lake!! Hope you all stay safe in this weather. I'm just praying we don't lose power!! That's all I need!!

Thanks for the info Terri. I was finally able to get the humidity to 50% by adding another container of water. I think I'll leave it at that. I don't hear anything but then again I can't even hear the fan in there standing right by it. No rocking or anything. I've been having major issues with the temps now. They dropped to 97 and I couldn't get them back up. Had to add a higher watt bulb. I'm holding steady for the moment!! Just keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Julie, that looks yummy!!

Thanks Terri. I just finished my meal and it was delicious. I used KC Materpiece Steakhouse Marinade (marinade for 1 hour in the fridge) and it gave it a very nice taste. A few potatoes and some steamed broccoli completed the meal. I surprised myself.

I didn't see the $8.90 price.

I will have to go back and check that out. Sounds like I will be purchasing those. In addition to the extra boots that I have in the garage, I can have people slide those on either one. I hope no one will get offended when I ask them to do that. If I would have had them weeks ago, I could have worn them to your house Terri for biosecurity for our birds.

I have never culled an animal in my life and I don't think that I can. I have someone that I call and they come over and do the deed but I take over and I pluck, butcher and clean. Last year, my hens hatched out about 60 roosters

, so I had to do something with them. I sold about 45 of them and the rest went to freezer camp. When I see that there are too many roosters, I try to detach myself from the roosters that I won't be keeping because I know the final outcome. It's sad but it's the only thing that I can do. I would love to give them to a good home but no one is looking for a rooster to add to their flock. Everyone wants a rooster for gumbos or stews.

Swampwood, isn't Mr. Fisette a nice old man? That's my friend. I hope he has been ok. I hadn't talked to him in a while. He has a lot of sheep and we always share our sheep stories when I go in there. He gave me a tip on making lamb sausage. YUMMY! Over the years, I have always loved stopping by and checking out the back room of live animals. I always pull up chair and talk to him and the workers and whatever friends that are there at the time and there is ALWAYS someone there shooting the breeze with him. You can't help but notice the old barn cats as you walk in. In the past, I purchased feed from him but with the rising costs of feed, it was too expensive. They always have nice chicks, ducks, turkeys and geese to chose from.
