Well folks, We finished off the last 13 meaties last night. Almost all of them are put up. Only a few left soaking in the ice water cooler with sea salt. Wow was that a lot of work! But it already smells better out there in the backyard
And I am looking forward to some fried chicken! Kind of weird for me since I rarely make fried foods here at home and I found out about 9mo ago that I have to eat Gluten Free. So it should be fun coming up with a breading that I like to fry with. I might use some of the GF flour mix that I mix up myself.
My Rooster conundrum continues. There are 4.......count them, FOUR!.......so far. I was going to pass the Fayomi to a friend to take to her Mom, but that just hasn't happened and I don't want to bug her about it. It has been a foregone conclusion with my 10 year old Chicken Whisperer that the Fayomi is going. She can deal with that. But she is NOT on board with her huge roo that came from school going, or the little white Cochin either. She says I can get rid of my Houdan! Little stinker! LOL!
Now that the Meaties are gone we have some work to do on the old hen house so I can put the bigger egg layers over there. In the long run our cute little chicken tractor we built is only going to work for our little Silkies and the Bantams. I am glad that my time will be freed up a little for that project. Even though we let them out into the whole yard everyday and there is perch room for everyone I still feel like they are getting crowded. It will be good in the long run anyway, if we do have any fertile eggs to give to the Silkies to hatch. They can have some privacy.
Hope everyone is having a good week!
