"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

13 meaties???

I am so jealous. If I had a chicken plucker, I think that I would invest in meaties and roosters but I don't have the time to do that.

Meaties mean........
Chicken Stew
Chicken Pot Pie
Chicken and Dumplings
Chicken Gumbo
Chicken and Biscuit Casserole
Chicken Salad
Chicken Tacos

Sooooooooooooo many more.....

Now I'm drooling just thinking about all those yummy dishes! We actually had 20 but had done 7 a week ago. My fingers are seriously sore from plucking last night! LOL! And I'm NOT complaining!!! If I were even going to think about doing that I would just go look into the freezer :) There is no way I could have done all that without my Superman though. Seriously no way.

You sure do know your breeds. I have NEVER even heard of this breed before. I thought someone from this thread had come over and snuck in a showgirl or frizzley little monster. I looked up pics of baby chicks for this breed and BINGO. That is what it looks like. Good job !!!!! Good Eye!!!!!!

Oh, I DON'T know breeds! That is a complete coincidence that I knew that because I have that 8wk old one that came with our meaties. I searched and searched to figure out what kind it is. Supposedly they don't seem to like being cooped up and don't lay a ton of eggs.......so not for me. Besides this one I have is a Rooster. So I hope I can find someone that wants him.....soon.

I know a gentleman that's looking for 3 roo's, "a red one, a calico (lol) one and a striped one" to match his hens he said. He wants chicks for his grandkids and if I end up with any he'll take them, I won't be mail ordering like I thought tho... I told him I'd keep my eye out. Saw a couple on CL but it said -catch them- lol no thanks...he's kinda a grump but takes great care of his hens, barnyard mixes mostly. Last I counted he had 14. I got one from him in a plant trade earlier this year. She's awesome.

A calico one? I can't figure that one out. I have a calico cat he can have tho. :)

There are now silkies and cochins coming in calico coloring. And confetti--I've got confetti cochins going into lockdown tomorrow. I don't know what else is being bred in calico. Interesting. I may need to go look in my grow out pens to see what extra roos I have.

I also need to part with our ball python and my daughter's hedgehog. If anyone is interested in either of these as a pet or know someone who would be, please pm me about pricing since they will come with their enclosures.

Long day. I will try to catch up tomorrow.

Good Afternoon!! I agree that this thread is a lot of laughs and excitement for me, too. Say what you want about my life, but it's wholesome, fun, and pretty much moral LOL, what more can you ask??? I usually check all the other threads I am subscribed to first and save this one for last so I can savor it. LOL Here is Day 11 of the little bunny, Ginger. Eyes aren't open yet. Actually, if you count by 24 hours, it's really Day 10.
That is just the cutest thing ever!

Well folks, We finished off the last 13 meaties last night. Almost all of them are put up. Only a few left soaking in the ice water cooler with sea salt. Wow was that a lot of work! But it already smells better out there in the backyard

And I am looking forward to some fried chicken! Kind of weird for me since I rarely make fried foods here at home and I found out about 9mo ago that I have to eat Gluten Free. So it should be fun coming up with a breading that I like to fry with. I might use some of the GF flour mix that I mix up myself.

My Rooster conundrum continues. There are 4.......count them, FOUR!.......so far. I was going to pass the Fayomi to a friend to take to her Mom, but that just hasn't happened and I don't want to bug her about it. It has been a foregone conclusion with my 10 year old Chicken Whisperer that the Fayomi is going. She can deal with that. But she is NOT on board with her huge roo that came from school going, or the little white Cochin either. She says I can get rid of my Houdan! Little stinker! LOL!

Now that the Meaties are gone we have some work to do on the old hen house so I can put the bigger egg layers over there. In the long run our cute little chicken tractor we built is only going to work for our little Silkies and the Bantams. I am glad that my time will be freed up a little for that project. Even though we let them out into the whole yard everyday and there is perch room for everyone I still feel like they are getting crowded. It will be good in the long run anyway, if we do have any fertile eggs to give to the Silkies to hatch. They can have some privacy.

Hope everyone is having a good week!
you bring back SO many memories---- of when I wanted, "just 3-4 hens & a little chicken tractor".

Chicken Math!!! which led to my current conundrum of 20- something chickens and 7 peacocks and 6 guineas.......

OH, my goodness! Terri, you live in Alex?

I heard someone at Petrus talking the other day about 'someone' in town that had Peacocks, chickens etc. They apparently drive by and notice them. They were there buying what else.....peacock babies. Funny if that is your birds they noticed.

Darn chicken Math!
