Wow, I feel like I have lazy birds now! I was just reading a thread about what time your chickens get up, everyone was 4:30-6am. I open my coop at 6:30 and get the stink eye every morning. My birds flat out refuse to come off the roosts until 8am.

Before I retired I got up every morning at 5:30 and the first thing I did was open the coops. Now I do NOT set an alarm so I get up between 7:00 and 8:00. I open the coops first thing but I do sometimes get the stinky stinky eye. Lol

I had ants in my horse stall & my Vet at the time told me to use grits the kind you have to cook, she also said to take a shovel full of one ant hill & put it on another the ants will fight & kill each other

I will try club soda. I'm desperate, I will try anything . I thought about burning them but my psychiatrist ordered me to stay away from fire ever since that last thing that happened. LOL. (just joking ya'll). I like fire too much. LOL[. Omg lolololololol

Maybe I can do that when all of the birds have gone in to roost and let that set over night. I could follow up with that fire thing again.

But then my psychiatrist may not be happy because of that "thing" that happened a while back with that fire "thing".

Ok all...another dumb question....are you ready

??? My coop is attached to the run and completely enclosed with heavy duty wire. It is secure. The neighbors rottweiler attempted entry once and tore his nose up so much, that he only stalks around the coop and run now. The property is surrounded by 3 board horse fencing, that is why my girls are only out of coop and run when I'm outside working. I do not lock up my girls in the coop at night. They go in themselves at dusk and come out at first light. What are the cons to doing this? My coop has good ventilation (2 soffit vents and 2 2x2 windows). The nesting boxes are attached to the coop on either side (3 each side). They are not laying yet, but hopefully soon! What do you think about not closing the door to the coop? Is it necessary during this time of year? I could understand during the winter, with cold weather, but now?
