"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Wow, I feel like I have lazy birds now! I was just reading a thread about what time your chickens get up, everyone was 4:30-6am. I open my coop at 6:30 and get the stink eye every morning. My birds flat out refuse to come off the roosts until 8am.

8:00AM???????? Tell those lazy birds to get up and at'em! My roosters are crowing at my window at 5:00 AM. That's when I GIVE the stink eye! :/

Wow! I sure wish your birds would send my birds the secret to sleeping in!

I think they are just lazy. I even have a small coop compared to the amount of birds I have because first I didn't know about chicken math, and second I planned for them to only be in there to sleep. I have 10 birds with 16 square foot of open floor space (food, water, nest boxes, and roost are extra room) and plenty of room on the ladder roost for all of them. I would think based on everyones "4 sq ft per bird" they would want to get out of there as quickly as possible, but no, even the lowest on the totem pole gives me the stink eye every morning. Are you supposed to give birds coffee to get started??? Maybe that's what I'm missing?

Hi everyone,

I haven't posted in a while. I've tried to keep up with all the post ya 'll have been writing. First a quick hello and welcome to all new eggs.

This is what the daughter of a exterminator told me a while back about ant mounds . She said sprinkle uncooked grits on the mound . The ants eat the grits and bring down in the pile when they eat the dry grits then drink water the grits expand when mixed with water killing the ants.

She said it works can't hurt to try most of us in the south have grits around. Also safe for all animals.

HI. Welcome back . Good to see you again.

I have a mess of grits in the fridge and I will try it. I know the grits won't hurt the chickens. Thanks for sharing. :thumbsup

If they are anything like me they would love it. Rarely do I get blood in my coffee vein.
