Congrats on the Golden Marans! Whoo-hooo!!!!
We have armadillos around but they never have tried to do anything to any of the poultry, just dig up my caladium bulbs & plants. I don't mind if they stay down at the bayou but I dont' want them digging around the hedges, which they like to do sometimes. When I find their tunnels I pour a box of mothballs down it & that makes them go away.
funny story: last summer I had just finished putting up a batch of pickles late one night & I heard a thumping & bumping along the living room wall - it was an armadillo - they can't see well at all & go stumbling around running into things -- I had a pot of leftover vinegar in my hand & I ran out the front door & poured it right on top of the hedge -- a young armadillo jumped up about 4 feet in the air, lept over the hedge & flew across the field. I never saw it come around my hedge again! Guess it didn't like being pickled.
