"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I'm not an expert. Although, the things that help me to determine if it's a rooster is certainly the comb & wattles; the roosters usually have much bigger feet (longer toes); Longer legs; longer tail feathers (male tail feathers are long and come to a point/females are fan like); and certainly their behavior. At just a few weeks of age some roosters will start to want to fight with other roosters. It's quite funny to watch them carry on. On a few ocassions, I've had to separate a few roosters because they were always wanting to fight.

You know I would have lots more animals if I just had the time. We have 30 acres so we have plenty of room for them. I work shift work, 2 weeks days & 2 weeks of nights and on my off days during the week I work a security detail for the state. It doesn't leave me with a whole lot of time to deal with them. So I can very well understand your exhaustion even though I don't have any where near the animals you do. I'm so glad your getting all the babies you need!!

Can't wait to see some pics when you can post them!!

Kuntrygirl, I don't know about those incubators! At least those broody hens don't overheat to 120 degrees and cook the eggs!

Yesterday, I loaded an incubator with 41 of my freshest eggs. Everything seemed fine -- nothing unusual. This morning, I checked temperature and it was 120 degrees. The thermostat had black soot all around it. I'm so glad I didn't sell you an incubator! This is my second one in two months to die full of eggs. These were my first two incubators and they are a few years old. Thank goodness these eggs were from my common breeds that I get plenty of eggs from everyday.

Sorry, Joe, if you're reading this it means that I'll be delayed a few days.

Oh Geez Twiley I'm so sorry to hear that!! I'll tell you even though they cost a bit the Brinsea's are totally worth the price!!

Amy, if you post a pic of your BR I could probably tell you whether it was a roo or not!!

Here are a few pics;

Next to each other in the brooder. The one on the right.

Without the red light. The one on the left.

This chick has the attitude. Pecked my cat in the face, chases my toddler, tries to roost and fly. Spirited, rotten thing. Not a roo, is it?

It looks like both of their legs have a black wash down them both right??? The dots on their heads are they pretty perfect looking??? If you can get me a side view of their wing feathers that would be better!!

ETA: Mine at 2 weeks

If I was closer I would do it to give you a break. We went on vacation two years ago and my 82 year old grandmother tended to all the chickens for me.
Which before we left I sold a bunch and installed automatic waterers to make it easier on her.

Howdy All.. Gotcha Gramby's.. Understand.

We had some severe storms go through Central Florida today (that's where my primary servers are) and have had a power outage. We hope to have everything back up and running ASAP. All my sites are down right now.

When I tried to switch to the back up server, it was unresponsive as well. So I decided to go with my local server, but I'm having DNS problems with it as well.. sooo.. hopefully they can get dried out and get the servers back up and running ASAP!

Joe

Awwwwww, that is so nice. I even tried contacting the local schools to get a FFA student or any other student who wanted to make some extra money. The students kept changing meeting dates, so I finally gave up. I even posted an ad for a farm sitter but no one responded. And the funny thing about it, it's really easy work and the pay is good!!! I would do it for someone else.

Some of ya'll were talkling about guineas the other day. Do ya'll know of
someone who has some to get rid of and what colors that they may
have.
I am having trouble getting in touch with my guinea lady and I am
needing to get some eggs to hatch or some guineas that are already
grown.(Age don't really matter) I am really looking for more
royal purples but right now would get about any color.

Chicks supposed to start hatching on the 1st...started chirping and pipping
last night. A few about ready to bust out this morning.

Yeah, I usually check the bulletin out but so far I have not been able to find anybody
with the royal purple color.
So far the closest I have found is in NW Alabama. Went there twice last year and out of all
the guineas I hatched I ended up with 1 royal purple. She got more royal purple males and females
from someone selling out a flock in October of lasy year so I should have a better shot at getting those eggs.
She only charges me 1.50 a dozen so I just take what she gathers instead of her holding specific eggs for me.
Nice and chilly here this morning along with being cloudy and a few drops of light rain earlier.
