"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I have noticed that the ones that are laying have a much larger vent than the non-layers. I check on mine a little too often.

Yuppers, I am in DeRidder. I am looking to buy property in St Tammy Parrish or somewhere around there, but am having trouble finding something at a reasonable price with legal access. The one I really liked was 10 acres (9 of them cleared) with legal access for $50000. It was a really great price but sold the day after I found it. Everything else seems to need access to the propriety threw logging companies propriety's (not something I want to have to deal with), or they want half a million or better for 10 acres (can't afford that and a build).

You should look around hwy 1077 north and the hwy 40 area. It's the best of both worlds. It's got the St. Tammany mailing address, but is actually IN Tangipahoa (and taxes are less in Tangipahoa). I'll keep my eyes open and let you know if I see anything interesting.

no we Don't live close. But I'm on the hunt for meat for processing or money. In metarie (I'm in slidell) some one teaches a coarse on processing chickens and lamb or pigs. I 'm trying to get my friend who can't have that many chickens to take the coarse..

I know that there are several processors in the Husser area. I'll have to look them up and see if they do chickens.

Thank you, I will look there. The other place that I have been looking is Opelousas, I can't figure out why it is so cheap there and want to find out before I fall in love with a parcel of land. When a price seems too good to be true you start to wonder how much of the area is swampland.

Don't laugh, but I've had great luck with the vanilla scented hanging car tags. I've got several in my coop, and no flies.
I have those and that is why I haven't had a problem in a long time. I looked this morning and there are only three in there now...HUGE improvement over the past two days. It did stop raining last night and is now cold outside. I think the heavy rain sent them all in there. I even tried peppermint essential oil sprayed in the coop because I know most bugs won't go near it... No response yesterday.

I am going to move my broody into the house sometime today for fear she will harm the other pullets. As time goes by she is less and less tolerant of them even looking at her much less trying to share egg warming duties. I never knew how puffed up or ornery that sweet little girl could get. She hasn't bit me yet, but she got one of the pullets good and it looks like she is starting to pluck out some chest feathers as well. So... naked belly and chest, this should be interesting. I have noticed that now she sleeps with her head tucked under one wing, never done that before.

First, I promise that I'm not a real estate agent, I love the thrill of the hunt! I'll ask a couple of questions, and if you don't feel comfortable answering, just ignore this...no problem.
Is there a range of acreage you are looking for? Before you mentioned 10. Is there a price range you want to be in? Flood zone?

I spent years looking for my dream piece of land. I found it, and it wasn't for sale. I got the tax records and called the person who owned it up. We made an offer, he thought about it and accepted. I was thrilled. I had always planned on it being our "retirement" place. However, last year someone approached us looking for that amount of acreage. They made us and offer that just made sense to take. They were such a nice family and actually have become friends. They plan on making a "family estate". I've seen the plans, and it was MUCH grander than anything we had planned for the property. As is almost 5000 sq ft grand!!!

I can't even comprehend cleaning that!!

Enjoy this beautiful, COOL day!!!!

Wow I thought prices went down. Which part of ST. Tammany are you looking at? I'll keep my eyes and ears open.

My biggest problem in buying another property is my mother. We are looking at one that will be a compromise tomorrow, but I really don't like the location. We will see when I get there. This will be my 4th purchase as I did not include her the first three times and she refused to move in. I want to be more on the south eastern or middle side of the state but not right on the coast. 7-10 acres would be best but no less than 5. I am willing to pay up to 7k for thinned and up to 15k for cleared and fenced per acre. I prefer not to have the bulk of the property on roadside. Must have legal access and sewer access (connection not required, just the ability to get connection). I can deal with septic or well but not both. I don't care about mineral rights but will not but anything that has a logging contract. The term flood zone is relative... I currently do not live in a flood zone but every time it rains my property floods before it drains into the pond. Before I lived in a flood zone and barely got a wet ground much less flooding. I don't want swampy ground but if the area floods like mine now I would need to have a slopped property so that I can have a drainage pond. I tend to collect weird things (truck, property, and husband) so a weird shaped lot is not that big of a deal but I do not want it split by a road. Must be outside city limits but within a half hour drive to a grocery store. I plan to clear and grow on 4 acres so I will need soil not clay. I haven't even considered something with a dwelling already on it but if the price is right I might just buy one. My laundry list is long and gets longer the more places I look at. This will be my first time getting a loan for a property and my last move so it is like buying for the first time again. All three before were bought from the same person and in cash. I will never do that again.

OK, I moved my broody into the house in the middle of the day today and it went well. Yes, my intent was to break her if she wasn't intent on sitting that long. I placed her nest box in a larger cardboard box and placed pine shavings, food and water in there. She must have smelled the cat I am temporarily caring for because she came off that nest for all of 2 minutes. She flew up to the top of the cardboard and sounded an alarm I have never heard before, then ate a quick bite and went back onto her nest and hasn't budged since. Meanwhile the cat is hiding under the table and won't go anywhere near the box. I didn't think there would be a problem because the cat is so lazy that a chick can stand on him and peck him and he will just lay there, but it is funny that for once he is hiding from something. My rooster is depressed because the broody hen is the one that is always literally under his wing. I finally brought him in to see her because he refused to go into the coop, just kept trying to search for her. When he saw her he had to check everything including the cat out then I think he told her about the whole day. He just sat there talking sweet to her for about 20 minutes then got on my shoulder to go roost for the night. This broody thing is completely new to me.

Happy Monday, La-yers peeps LOL
