I saw a thread on here where someone did it with the elastic end of a sock balled up at the bottom of the neck. They say it works, but I don't even like them on my legs much less a neck of a rooster.

I would think to cook or ferment it first but not raw. If I remember correctly there is something that gets cooked out of rice that is bad for chickens.

I'm not sure. Let's try to find out what it is. I will have to try to tind the thread from a while back where I asked about rought rice to see what the comments were.
