"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Well, Kuntrygirl, I don't know about banana wine, or 3 fire-pits or why anyone would want bats near their house, but you are certainly are one of a kind! I wish you luck, raising 100 meaties during the winter and am happy you got all 13 pillows, but that's a lot of pillows for a sofa, so I am not going to even ask! I can see you cannot resist a sale, so I hope they keep matches off the sale isles ! LOL

Well you know me and my crazy line of thinking. Winter raising makes me more comfortable than summer raising . I would hate for them to die from heat related problems.

Yes, 13 pillows are a lot but for $1.10 a pillow, I couldn't leave the family of pillows in the store. We won't even talk about the numnber of matches that I have stored up.

I lucked up and found the hard plastic kiddie pools on sale at Dollar General for $0.80. The regular price was $8.00 and they were marked down to $2.40 and then marked down to $0.80. I won't even say how many I came home with. As you said, I cannot resist a sale. :p

I am getting interested in soap making. Not so much that I have to, but to make sure I can, if the need should arise and I like learning new things. Do any of you do this? Do you also make your own laundry detergent? I was surprised how popular this hobby was getting!

A couple of weeks ago we were talking about it. Everyone should be on by tomorrow to give you pointers and tips. You better watch out, we have too many hobbies going and everyone seems to get addicted. Side effects of this are Kuntrygirl...not enough hours in the day and the only sleep you get are from your "projects".

Sleep? What's that?

I love the idea of soap making. As soon as I find a time frame to fit that in, I'm all on top of that soap making.

Good morning La-yers! Hope everybody had a nice weekend. I got my pantry totally cleaned out, scrubbed down, new shelf liners & re-organized. Yesterday I did nothing except snap a couple pics of some buzzards roosting in that old burnt out pecan tree – I’ll post them when I get home. They were after a dead possum in the middle of the road. We watched them dine through binoculars.

Yes, it’s amazing what we do for entertainment since we don’t have cable TV.

Anyone have any good deer recipes? My husband is going to Oklahoma in a couple of weeks for "black powder" season. It's been years since he's hunted deer and I will need some ideas. I'll get some done as sausage, but need some ideas for the rest. Plus, I better get the deep freeze ready!!!

I haven't purchased soap at the store in 1 1/2 years. We have SO much soap!!! If you get the basic safety knowledge down and figure out the soap calculator then you will be off and running! I make our own lip balm and laundry soap. There are a couple of different ways to do the laundry soap. Its cheaper and I love that we can customize a batch of soap how we want it. Here is a random picture of one of the soaps that I made. It has banana, whipping cream, essential oils for scent and vanilla bean seeds. This pic is kind of washed out a bit by the flash.
That is lovely. If it didn't have any scents in it, I wouild buy some from you.

Yes, it is bad timing. Yes, they will blame him even though this one is not his fault. They were checking their backup system and updating their normal one. Well, their backup didn't work. Better to learn now than find out during a crisis. People are upset because they don't properly budget their food spending and run out before the next FS come in. This causes them to rush to the store as soon as the card is loaded. Cooking on a budget may not taste as good as a T-bone or chips and icecream but it allows you to at least have something in your pantry. I am glad it happened and hope that at least some will rethink how they manage their pantry. Heck, a 20lb bag of rice for $5-10 (depending on where you buy it) in the back of the pantry and a few cans of beans would go a long way if they don't have the ability to go shopping right away. Also, have you noticed that the best sales go out right after most FS are run dry for the month. A little careful planning would go a long way for them.

Over in Simmesport they only have one grocery store there Wiggly Piggly the town is a predominantly FS and welfare assisted as it is full of Katrina N.O. refugees. Anyway that store is sky high on prices I don't remember there ever being a sale there(they do have a points system but thats a lure/baiting is all) LOL you can drive 20 miles to Marksville and get twice the groceries for the same amount of cash, you know there is place in HELL for folks that take advantage(feed off the poor and desolate) of that system like that but too I think most of the FS recipients should/could GET A JOB too. J/S

That store sounds ilke a store about 7 miles from my house. The store is 3 times higher than walmart and they make a killing on the food stamp cards. It's too expensive for me to shop at.

Hi all!  It's been so long since I've made it on here to say hello.  School started back in August and then my 35 year old little brother passed away in September.  Things have been wayyyyyy to topsy turvy this year.  Nothing seems to have gone right.

If anyone is near me and is looking for males of any specific breed I will be glad to talk to you...I have two partridge bantam cochins, one black frizzle bantam, three swedish flowers, and one rir.  I also have a young pair of lavender orpingtons to go.

I'm not incubating anything else until late November/December.

My daughter is doing well and is 29 weeks!!  I can't believe it will only be 11 more weeks until I'm a grandma!  When did I get this old?:idunno

I scrolled through a few pages trying to catch up with everyone.  Lots of great stories.

Glad to see you back. Sorry to hear about your brother passing. Congrats on the new baby.
