"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

PLEASE come do my pantry!!!!!!!!!!! I'm scared to venture in to far!

LOL, I had no choice! I opened it a few days ago & a couple of moths flew out. Oh no! I started rummaging around & sure enough, found a little forgotten bag of buckwheat flour I’d bought a couple months ago – full of weevils merrily hatching out into pantry moths. I was so grossed out! Everything & I do mean EVERYTHING came out of that pantry! I didn’t find anything else, but those shelves got cleaned & fumigated like they haven’t been in years!

Yes, I have a limit. I don't burn live animals or people. I DO burn trash, leaves, sticks, branches, ant piles, and other things laying around in the yard. My wish is to burn a car one day to see how quickly it will explode.

I have a theory that the explosion would be extra sparkly if you fill the gas tank 1/3 of the way with gas first LOL!

I was thinking the same thing.
We bagged and vac sealed ours too. It worked seriously awesome! This is where I get my bags. They had the perfect size for bagging the chickens and it was a big roll and a great price. Some people say SAMS club has a good price on the bags too.

Good morning La-yers! Hope everybody had a nice weekend. I got my pantry totally cleaned out, scrubbed down, new shelf liners & re-organized. Yesterday I did nothing except snap a couple pics of some buzzards roosting in that old burnt out pecan tree – I’ll post them when I get home. They were after a dead possum in the middle of the road. We watched them dine through binoculars.

Yes, it’s amazing what we do for entertainment since we don’t have cable TV.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes watching vulture! My pantry is torn apart right now! With all the rearranging of jars etc. A good idea on replacing the shelf liner! I feel like doing "SPRING CLEANING" in the fall.

Over in Simmesport they only have one grocery store there Wiggly Piggly the town is a predominantly FS and welfare assisted as it is full of Katrina N.O. refugees. Anyway that store is sky high on prices I don't remember there ever being a sale there(they do have a points system but thats a lure/baiting is all) LOL you can drive 20 miles to Marksville and get twice the groceries for the same amount of cash, you know there is place in HELL for folks that take advantage(feed off the poor and desolate) of that system like that but too I think most of the FS recipients should/could GET A JOB too. J/S

Most people don't care how they spend money they don't work for or what comes easily! I, too, was wiped out with Katrina, in St Bernard, an medically 100% disabled and on a very low fixed income, but do not get or ask for food stamps! I grow what we eat and if we can't afford something, we do without, but I am against putting our grand children in debt to pay for things we can do without or non-essentials! Don't get me wrong, we all need a hand up, at one time or another, but it is still CHARITY, not ENTITLEMENT ! There is entirely too much waste and too much big government spending, with the crunch on businesses, that is causing our people to be unemployed. And don't get me started on the illegal immigrants who are being given more rights than our citizens! What part of "ILLEGAL" don't our politicians understand? I came up very poor, and it is not a sin to be poor, but it is a sin to stay that way because of laziness. Everyone has a chance, in this country, to have the American Dream, if we are willing to get out and work for it, honestly. By increasing our skills, we achieve a higher standard of living, but not for flipping hamburgers! IMHO:rant

We weren't poor growing up. My father was in the Air Force and retired after 40 years and my mom was a teacher. Although I don't know what it's like to be poor and not have anything but I live like I"m poor now. Growing up, we pretty much got anything we wanted but at the same time, we were not spoiled like some kids are these days. I remember seeing flyers posted at school about different lessons and activities and I would always get home and ask my parents if I could take whatever lesson people were offering. Growing up, I can remember taking piano lessons, swimming lessons, baton twirlling, cheerleading camp, French camp, playing softball every summer, volleyball camp, chemistry camp, and whatever camp there was to enroll in. If I went home and told my dad tha I wanted to take underwater basket weaving, he would have said yes. I guess because we always wanted to do constructive things and it kept us out of trouble and because we had extrememly good grades growing up, my parents always let us do those types of things.

Nowadays and when I left home at 17, I purposely lived my life in a frugal manner. I only bought and still buy clothes that are on sale. I use coupons and I shop the clearance racks in the grocery store and in other stores. I pinch pennies every days and I love to recycle. I wouldn't have it any other way. I pray that I never have any misforutnes where I am poor in the future, but if something happens, then I will know how to survive.

That is lovely. If it didn't have any scents in it, I wouild buy some from you.
It only has some natural essential oils for scent. I have to make plenty of types that are free of the artificial chemical fragrances......because of my dear daughters sensitive skin. I like to give her plenty of options. I have done a few that don't even have essential oils though. Maybe someday on the selling. We were actually kicking the idea around yesterday.

What could make a girl happier on this Sunday than a big set of shelves??!!!  My hubby brought me a big, sturdy set of shelves for my canned foods.  I filled them!  And there are still more jars to put on there BUT its not a good idea to stack jars directly on top of jars(the experts say).  I guess the idea is that you may not know if a seal breaks.....if you have other jars directly on top pressing down.  So we are going to put a spacer in on two of the shelves......so we have 2 more shelves:thumbsup  hahaha!  I didn't realize how many jars of various canned foods we had, since I have been storing them in a few different places.  I quit counting today when I got over 200.    Don't judge!  lol!  But if Wal-Mart burnt down we would have food for a long time!

Congrats on the new shelves. Please take pics and post so we can be jealous of you. :)

And definitley not judging on the 200+ jars but I am so jealous.

That's the problem with canning...It is so addicting that you end up with more than you thought. That was sweet of your husband to bring you a sturdy set of shelves! Just remember to rotate.

I can't wait to get started with canning. :)

We talked to his wife this morning and they need toothpaste! She is going to check with him again and get a list of items that he and other guys need. She said they get tons of toothbrushes, but not hardly any toothpaste. It means a lot to us to be able to help make those guys and gals comfortable as they can be. I'm going to make them cookies! I'm excited to send them something!
