"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

It turned out to be a beautiful day outside! And hubby bought things for the garden! :) Mucho progress on getting the plastic up and door on :D the greenhouse. Its going to be nice not have all those plants inside for winter!

I am at the point that my livestock are paying for their own feed bill, but we are growing some of their feed and I have been selling everything we do not consume ourselves. I have cut way back on our chicken flocks and what the broodies hatch are sold at 6 months old, as I have found a market for both layer pullets and the roos. The ducks have been sold in pairs as soon as I get more females that I can afford to let any go and still have enough to reproduce and I will be processing extra drakes this winter. The turkeys, between, eggs and poults have always more than paid their own way through the spring and summer, but now a market has opened up for yearling pairs and Thanks Giving dinner orders. Rabbit are the biggest meat producers and the cheapest to feed, so they are where you can feed yourself free and still come out with some $s in your pocket. I hope to grow ore of the livestock's feed next year and add mealworms to increase their protein levels. Maybe I am finally getting a handle on this farming venture?

Has anyone really made any money or broken even on feed, with only your labor paying for all the food you get out from it. I know I save a lot on doctor bills and Rx!

Alright guys, my eggs arrived. Only one had serious air cell damage, and the seller included 3 extra legbar eggs!!!! So tomorrow I will be putting the 6 blue isbar and 9 crested cream legbar eggs in the bator!!!
