The black stars had poor Primrose in the corner of the coop pecking on her. She was making distress sounds that got my attention. (They only sleep in the coops. ) usually they settle down. I can't put her in the other coop with the Amercaunas bec she picks on them although not with a killer attitude like the black stars can have. (And the BS's are bigger and heavier than Prim). So I drug out the dog kennel and set it up with bedding, food, water and perch. She's happy. I guess I'll let her sleep there until I figure out something else.

Poor primrose has no flock of her own. Time for some chicken math!!!

Thanks for the info! What makes you want to do 50? Is it about the same amount of work doing more?
His main goal is good food in the freezer that will last us awhile. We will be free ranging the majority of the time and FF feed 2-3x's a day. I do fermented feed now and love it. Saves me $ and helps the birds. I'm expecting end cost to be about $7/chicken.
What is fermented feed? And why is it good for chickens? I apologize if its a dumb question, I'm still learning.

Its not a dumb question. FF is chickens regular crumbles that have water and some un pasteurized apple vinegar(I use Braggs) mixed up in a bucket and allowed to ferment. Some people don't even use the vinegar. There is a GREAT thread on FF here on byc. They talk about how to keep it and the many benefits of feeding with FF.
