"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Morning La-yers – whew! I don’t feel like I even had a weekend. My NY friend came in & it was a whirlwind of activity. She made it home safe late last night – to six inches of snow. She said she was ready to come back, hahaha! I bet so.

We had a good time playing with the chickens and the peas and the dogs and cats. We went shopping w/my Mom, went to the Inglewood market Sat morning, had supper with my folks Sat night, and stayed up way to late! Sunday afternoon after we put her on the plane, I had to hurry & get Winnie’s column written.

And poor Jim – this morning it was -6 below in Wisconsin – he’s fixing to get on the road to Milwaukee since they’re expecting heavy snowfall this afternoon. He will most definitely be glad to be back home!

I think I want call ducks. I saw them “in real life” for the first time and they are so tiny & cute and make the softest, sweetest little ‘quack’ – they sound like toy ducks. Anybody ever have them?

Sounds like you had a nice visit. I hope that Jim has a safe trip home.

I think that Mike has some. I thought about you this weekend and thought about that delicious lunch. :drool

Question: Is the only time you see a "blood dot" on a yolk is when it's fertile? I have cracked a couple of eggs that have them. I am starting to wonder about one of my Polish. He/She is starting to get spur nubs, but have read that hens sometimes have them. Rootin Tootin is sweet, so he/she stays, until there's a problem.

Do Polish crow? They were born first week of April. I haven't gotten eggs from the Polish yet, but have read that they might not be good layers.

I'm so confused!! (It's my general state of being these days...

Infertile eggs can also get blood clots.

I haven't had any eggs since summer ended from my polish (right about the time I got a polish rooster raised up...grrrr...) but through spring and summer my girls gave me an egg every single day. Post a pic. of the one in question.

Post picture of the Polish. At the age you(one) should be able to ID them by the sex feathers or lack of them.
