Uhm, yeah. I now have an incubator. Thanks Ya'll!!! Enablers, encouragers and instigators. My husband has now joined the enabler party............he brought home hatching eggs and tonight I am setting up the incubator. My only consolation is that these are to be raised for food. So at least our #s shouldn't skyrocket.

I just got some cheap hatching eggs for fun on a great deal due to a last minute Ebay buyer back-out. It was only $10 total so why the heck not? I have never had eggs and not known what they are before. It is an assortment of the days eggs from the different purebred pens. They could be Marans (definitely 1 of those), Silkie, Naked Necks, or BB Red Phoenix. I hope they develop! It will be fun figuring out what they are!

I know what you mean. I have a bantam sitting on 9 eggs right now, but none of them are hers!. I have RIR, BR, Ameracauna, Welsummer, Lt Brahma, Wyandottes that are laying. My wyandottes and brahma are young so I think my hatchlings will be RIR, BR, mostly. I know there are Americauna eggs and a welsummer due to color. Hopefully they hatch. All I can be sure of at this point is that they will all be crossed with Black Australorp cause that's my only rooster mounting them. Should be interesting!

Hey ya'll! I have a Delaware hen, point of lay age that has an old injury that never healed. I think she broke her foot a few months ago. I tried vet wrap and stabilizing but it didn't work. She hops around on one foot and eats well and all. The thing is my Roos HATE her. They have begun attacking her constantly and I have had to separate her from the flock. Any takers???? She is free to someone who has space for her and nicer flock mates :(

[COLOR=000000]Morning La-yers – whew! I don’t feel like I even had a weekend. My NY friend came in & it was a whirlwind of activity. She made it home safe late last night – to six inches of snow. She said she was ready to come back, hahaha! I bet so.

We had a good time playing with the chickens and the peas and the dogs and cats. We went shopping w/my Mom, went to the Inglewood market Sat morning, had supper with my folks Sat night, and stayed up way to late! Sunday afternoon after we put her on the plane, I had to hurry & get Winnie’s column written.

And poor Jim – this morning it was -6 below in Wisconsin – he’s fixing to get on the road to Milwaukee since they’re expecting heavy snowfall this afternoon. He will most definitely be glad to be back home!

I think I want call ducks. I saw them “in real life” for the first time and they are so tiny & cute and make the softest, sweetest little ‘quack’ – they sound like toy ducks. Anybody ever have them?

Terri, there were some beautiful call ducks at the LSU Show. You could contact MrsMagoo or Chris Hartzog to find out who was showing them. I agree they are so cute and love their little "quack".
