Here's my volunteer for supper......hahaha....this is my hen that had the problem getting her first egg out. Black beauty in her hot tub.

I am getting more excited about making my move. Here in AZ it is a desert in more ways then one. No real farming or agriculture to speak of. What was isn't any more. Our State and county Fairs is a carnival with a few animals. A 12' table was the 4H vegetables, it is pitiful. The food is even worse. Nothing local. NO ONE in Louisiana would ever eat that greasy junk. You have respect for food in LA. An a farming community. .... I really hat option here.

You will not have any problems getting things to grow here. Ron dismantled my raised bed to put in a sunnier spot. He put cabbage I was growing in it on a brick column with no soil it's growing. I can't believe it. You'll have a trade off with the humidity . Pam

So my meaties are a couple weeks away from being ready.
We figured $ 2.79/lb and $2.50/lb for 5 or more.
They're going pretty fast...are we underselling our meat? Or is it just that time of year being off season?

*edited Actually its $2.59/5 or more sorry small keys lol

Kewl beans, I'd like it to pay for itself and the next order of chicks and still be affordable for families to have fresh, free ranged meat. We went all over and priced chicken everywhere, from generic to top brand...top shelf prices were stupid ridiculously high and generic chicken looked half frozen globs of meat. Even the top shelf bird except one brand had up to 15% added "juice" Ick. We weighed them before opening packages and after and we were paying for water (or juice) I'd never use in a stock.

Next batches feed will be organic and a batch for spring we will go organic and free range will be soooo plentiful due to the season. It's good now bit the cold keeps the group on just these two acres. I want them throughout foraging all the nummys in the woods and in the gardens we made. Spring batch will be once a day feeders. So far we have to feed twice a day. When foraging gets better due to weather, our feed cost will be worth the organic prices of whole/cracked grains.
This time around the prices will barely cover feed and cost of chicks. Mostly due to my newb mistakes in the beginning. Killed 8 in the cold :( 2 we aren't counting due to one with splayed leg - we will eat her and one crook neck that's a farm pullet now, she used her get outta butcher free card by surviving her siblings who are 4 times her size lol
yeah your'e a little cheap there I'd say, but if you are making profit and feel that's enough for labor too then go for it. :)
