"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I am getting more excited about making my move. Here in AZ it is a desert in more ways then one. No real farming or agriculture to speak of. What was isn't any more. Our State and county Fairs is a carnival with a few animals. A 12' table was the 4H vegetables, it is pitiful. The food is even worse. Nothing local. NO ONE in Louisiana would ever eat that greasy junk. You have respect for food in LA. An a farming community. .... I really hat option here.
Glad you’re getting to “come home” – you’ll enjoy it!

What breed is your avatar pic? That is one funky lookin chicken! I might wanna add some flair to my flock!
That's Stinker, she's a Golden Laced Polish. We have two, they are the sweetest, goofiest birds we have. They are favorites because of their personalities. We had a Silver Laced Polish, but lost her to illness a couple of months ago. She was always tucked under my 8yr olds arm or in his lap when he was outside. He would even ride his bike with her under his arm.

I plan on looking for another Silver Laced Polish this spring. So far, they haven't given me any eggs, however, in their defense they started molting not long after they came of age. They have had a really hard molt and I've been having to blue kote their tails to keep the other chickens away from them.

I found that www.mypetchicken.com is a great place to look at the different breeds and read about the breeds egg production. This is where I got my flock. However, as I add to my flock I will do so locally.

Isn't it just when you only see a head pic? The first time I saw it I was like whoa, but when you see the whole bird they are really beautiful and you couldn't think of them without that on their head. The ones I have seen are small and graceful, they make you think of royalty in the flock.
I have really enjoyed them (my Polish). I think every flock needs two. It keeps us from taking things too seriously. You can't help but laugh when you look at them. My 8 yr old has gotten good at helping me trim her (Stinkers) feathers so she can see.

Looks like a gold-laced polish, right Cackednut? I just added 2 to my flock the day before yesterday. I love the "flair birds". That's mostly all that I have.
You got it right. They are favorites. When Stinker's feathers grow too much and she has trouble seeing...when she "loses" her flock, she will stand there and make the most awful call. She is calling me or my 8yr old to come and get her. When her feathers are kept trimmed, she keeps up just fine.

You'll have to let us know what you name yours. My kids named ours...their names are just awful!! Stinker and RootinTootin. We lost StubbieNubbie a couple months ago.
