OHHHH MYYYYYY!!!!! So cute!!

I just love it when you find natural non toxic ways to get rid of pest. They don't like cloves either. Bay leaves keep silverfish away. I've never had silver fish but my MIL would put bay leaves all over the back of my counters she said it kept them away. Pam

Silverfish are nasty creepy little things!!! I wish someone would have told me that bay leaves kept them away when I was a kid. Anyone that lives in FL and says they have never had silverfish or roaches is a liar. No matter how clean your home is there they come in at one point or the other. It's like being in this state and saying that you have never had those furry caterpillars in your trees or ants. When I left I left everything but the clothes on my back there so that I wouldn't bring any with me. Ants don't like cloves? Hmmm... I like the smell of cloves better then peppermint oil, I'll have to try that this summer.

Last year I had my exterminator working for his money trying to get rid of those ants! Nothing he had worked and I am not a messy person so I couldn't quite figure out why it was so bad. Then someone told me about using peppermint oil to rid their new house of roaches and ants. Sure enough it worked. I put 4 drops in a 8 oz bottle and fill with water, then I spray near the entrances to the house and no longer have a problem. Some days in the height of the summer I had to spray twice but it wasn't a bother.
I wonder if that would work in the chicken coop for fire ants? Would it be harmful to the chickens?

I would try clove oil mixed with water I wouldn't leave whole cloves they might try to eat them . You could take cloves and tape them in place or stick them on fly paper. you could stud them through your air fresher like people use to stud them in oranges. Don't mine me just brainstorming out loud. LOL!

Not harmful to chickens, and I did use it in the coop last summer to help combat mosquitoes. It is one of the few oils that you can consume both the extract and the essential without harm.

Could that be toxic to my cats or dogs if they were to lick it?

We haven't had ants in our coop. knock on wood!! Do you have any electric motors in your coop? the one problem we have had with ants is them getting in the motor of our pump for our sewage treatment plant. We finally built a fake wishing well over it to keep them out Pam
