Once I open my honey, which I just did, yum. Do I need to refrigerate it?
NO! honey is the olny food that doesn't go bad. No fridge required. Pam

I am going to have to interject here and say that all was forgotten and forgiven, and I would not call LadyKotaDoria "off" at all. It was a misunderstanding, possibly because she is use to more snarky cynicism she has dealt with from others in her life. It was a taken out of proportion - even she admitted that and apologized. She has been nothing but friendly, kind and considerate with me and I would not like either of the above parties being put down in any way - especially not here on this thread. Let's let sleeping dogs, lay on this please. There is no reason to dwell on it anymore.
Now kuntrygirl the chickens have to drink the wine not you. Just want to make sure you understand that. Lol have a Great New YearWine? Mine will be laying machines.![]()
Seriously. Honey NEVER goes bad. I would only put it in the fridge if you have an ant problem about. I sooo hope that the ants don't get like last year.
I use to feed my horses that brand of feed got it from Raceland ag when I lived in St. Charles parish. When I move here couldn't find it so I had to change feed. My horses did real good on the Lone Star brand. If we are going out of state for feed there is a brand/mill called Lone Star in TX that sells aprox 45lb bags of organic for $24. They use kg as a way to measure not pounds. One of my local feed stores sells their brand though I haven't tried it yet.
Last year I had my exterminator working for his money trying to get rid of those ants! Nothing he had worked and I am not a messy person so I couldn't quite figure out why it was so bad. Then someone told me about using peppermint oil to rid their new house of roaches and ants. Sure enough it worked. I put 4 drops in a 8 oz bottle and fill with water, then I spray near the entrances to the house and no longer have a problem. Some days in the height of the summer I had to spray twice but it wasn't a bother.
"Honey is apparently the only food that does not spoil. (Um...while this can be found on the inside of a Snapple bottle cap, Im not quite confident in the validity of this "fact").
Sugar doesn't 'spoil' either. Honey is basically a mix of sugars with some water. Honey can and does ferment under the right conditions.
As a beekeeper and someone who has been producing and learning about honey for close to 30 years, I can confirm the "fact" that honey does not spoil. Honey is naturally antibiotic and antiviral. The only way that natural airborn yeasts can become active is for water to be added to honey. As long as the moisture content remains under 18% nothing will grow in honey. Natural, raw, honey varies from 14% to 18% moisture content. Raw honey also contains enzymes that help in its digeston. Honey was found in one of the Egyptian pyramids, estimated at several thousand years old, and it was still good."
