"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I dodged a bullet today and tomorrow I will have to fix the roof and door on the coop because of it. I went out a little late to close up the chickens and thought I lost a chick so I turned around to call the chick (they respond to the same noises I use to call the dogs) and saw the biggest raccoon I have ever seen across the yard. He just looked at me and slowly walked away. This is not one of the neighborhood raccoons (all the size of small dogs), this thing came up to just above my knee! It was in the chicken yard and had every chance to take my flock with the door open but didn't even touch it. The roof of my coop is so high and has nothing to climb up near it that it is just laying on there, now I am going to attach it. The door only has a hook lock because our normal raccoons are small and can't reach the bottom of the door much less the latch. I have raccoon proof latches but got to busy or forgot to put them on. I moved them for the night and tomorrow I will fix everything. I am counting my blessings right now! I have seen raccoons all my life and never thought they got that big!

Very glad you dodged that! Time to set a trap! Or shoot!

Tuna or canned cat food. That's what I've found gets 'em.

Walmart has sardines in a can for under a dollar. Each can has 4 good sized ones in it. One is enough to bait the trap bec it smells so strong. I would kill it personally. Once those possums have been in my chicken yard, they've got to go. As in die. My coop hardware cloth was bent from something strong with fingers. Probably a possum.

Once I wouldn't have agreed, but once I didn't have a flock to think of first. Also I have read many things heavily against relocating them for various reasons like such:

"...Although live trapping and relocating has been widely used as a method of wildlife control, it can be inhumane as the animals may suffer severe injury and sometimes death in their attempts to escape. It is not a long-term solution. Most wild animals are territorial, so relocating them somewhere else will not only fail to solve local problems, but often creates new problems at the release site by upsetting the natural balance of existing populations. The resident raccoons may attack and sometimes kill relocated raccoons to defend their territory. Studies done by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources have shown that 60% of relocated raccoons do not survive. Relocation also facilitates the spread of disease from one area to another."

Something you should consider. It is not as merciful as many would think.

One shot to the head while in the trap does the deed. Rinsed off and ready to go. It was the first living thing, other than snakes, I had ever killed.

I'm going to have to check back on some of those link about the actual life cycle again so we can have an idea what we should expect.

My beetles seemed to arrive later than normal, and many died right after I transferred to a separate bin. I provide potatoes and carrot, rice bran, and chick starter. May are doing fine, just curious if its normal to lose do many...

Being married in the temple means she and her husband will forever be tied together. They are still married after death. He will be able to get married again on earth. Also when my sister married they were married in the Temple. His brother was not Temple worthy so he could not attend. I do not know if my brother-in-law had other relatives that could not attend that are LDS but do not have a letter of Temple recommend. I to think it is wrong to not allow parents and family to attend a wedding. You have to have the bishops letter of recommend, gone three all the classes and what ever you need to do. Also you must be faithful with you tithing. :idunno

Normans are required to walk the walk, and are responsible for them selves. Once a month during church, members get up, go to the podium and give their testimonials. Young people, at there own expense become missionary's. It is a 24/7 religion. There is a lot of questioning and self examination, are you doing all you can to be a good christian (Mormon). The Prophet is kind of like the pope, he is the one that god speaks thru. Ear pear sing is ok, but only for 1 set of ear rings. You can not drink, but if you do it is ok, you give up being Temple worthy. You are not condemned, but it is also clear non-aprovel. They do not want you to go away if you do wrong, they want you to stay so they can help you do right. I guess they feel it is not Possable to influence someone that is not there.

Thanks for the info.I didn't know LDS had a prophet I thought that was the ones that belive in plural marriage. Like warren Jeff and their "compound'.I thought the LDS were different. Meaning no Prophet. I don't like a church that requires a certain amount of money to be a member in good standing or temple worthy.I know they do alot of good with it. I would think some goes where its not soppose to too.
Are they required to where special under garments? I really don't know but my friends daughter that converted said that was a custom.
That one sounded strange to me.Pam

There are off shouts to the Mormons, clamping that the Salt Lake City Mormans are not fallowing the scriptures. The a Phrofit, some time back declared it was the will of God, 1 wife and 1 husband. I get confused on earthly wife and heavenly wife. I am not sure on the structure of higher archy. As for the special under clothing my sister wares all that stuff. There are symbols to protect I believe, but I have not seen them, she has never taken it off and she wares it under her underclothings. I have not asked her. I have looked into the church and attended classes. I have a few problems as well. The strong tithing is one. I do understand it can come back to help you, they do not believe in charity. They do believe in giving and helping otters. Yet they have thier own Good Well stores. The Origenal church has

split I think 3 or 4 times. I believe that The Church Of God is one of the off shoots... But not 100% sure. I know it is something like that. I also know that the most radical groups are felt by the mane street Mormons not to be Mormons. And the ones that are practicing plural marriage is out side of the church, non will ever get a temple recommend. I think I have depleted all my knowlage and I am teetering on speculation.

I know I can be thick sometimes but I must be extra thick because I truly don't understand this one. In Chicago it is expected to get a wind chill factor of -30 to -40 on Monday. They are closing down the airport, asking people to stay off the road as much as possible, only planning on plowing the main roads until the storm is over, and warning about frostbite in as little as 5 min on any exposed skin, but they expect parents to send their kids to school??? The bus can't pick up anyone not on a main road because they won't be plowed and a lot of kids walk. There would be no way I would send my child out in that weather for any reason.
I wish you could have told my mom. I waited for the bus in that kind of weather. Then they built a school a block a way, and I had to walk. I have had frost bit and it is not fun. As an adult I have been out in a record -80deg. windchill with a -2x temp. I was driving a truck with my late husband. The axel froze then the tire froze. Then the engine died, the fuel froze. We had a lot of red stuff (an anti-fuel freeze). I was terrified we both were. :fl

(I have to rewrite this part just finished all the posts). What I read agrees with cold hardy and non-cold hardy breeds. The comb is the best indicator. Tall and large combs not hardy, pea, cushion, and rose are supposedly cold hardy with a few very cold hardy.

When I do use a heat source I use a heating element. My girls do not like having a light on at night. I do have to be careful in the placement. I had it once to low and I singed the tail of one of my girls. I :hide Want to take the chill off not set them afire.

Well, that's a bummer. Looks like it is more humane to kill, I wouldn't want it to suffer because I tried to save it.
