"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Good morning everyone. Thanks to everyone who posted, PM'ed me and emailed me about my "whereabouts". I appreciate everyone's concern. I am here. I am ok. I didn't have to evacuate, so that was a relief. All of the animals are safe and secure. My stress level has come down A LOT! I was worried about all of my broody animals but no more worries for now. I hope everyone is ok out there.

I have had 3 Muscovy Duck hatches in the last few days. The first set of ducklings hatched on Wednesday. The second set hatched on Friday. The third set hatched on yesterday (Sunday). I was able to take pics of the 1st and 2nd hatches but wasn't able to get any pics of the 3rd set. I will try to take some pics this week and post.

This group was hatched about a month ago. They have gotten bigger.

Betsy!

Yvette hope you feel better soon!

Missi, from what I've read, the other colors of Marans do not lay eggs as dark as the BCMs. I probably am going to sell my BCM trio, if I get a good hatch of Welsummers. I just like my Wellies better. I was working on egg color w/them when I lost my roo & 3/4 of my Wellie flock last fall. (moral: always keep a backup roo! and lock your chickens up at night even if they don't want to go inside)!

Today or tomorrow I should get my Welsummer eggs I won on a BYC auction here. They looked like they had a nice color & size to them & some of them are Channing Grisham lines - same as my original girls.

These are some of my eggs. The dark ones are from my Welsummers & the big lighter brown one in the center is from my Meyer hatchery Cuckoo Marans Myrtle - she's 3 years old now & has always laid that color - but a nice large egg!

The blue ones are from my Ameracaunas & the big green one in the middle if from my other Meyer EE girl, Chippy.

Myrtle & Chippy are 2 of my original 3 chickens (lost one) I started with 3 years ago -- back when I "just wanted a chicken tractor & 3 hens for fresh eggs, lol" Both of them lay an XL sized egg - see how small they make the "breeder" eggs look! I have been hatching only the largest & bluest eggs, trying to get the size increased & color deepened.

Awww Julie your Scovies are so cute!!!!!!

(chanting to self: I have no room for ducks. I have no room for ducks)

I had an email from Andy & he said they didn't think they would have to evacuate either, unless the levee broke.
Prayers for all those who do.

What are you going to do with all those babies?!?! You are definitely going to have your hands full for sure! Glad to hear you didn't have to evacuate. Feel free to give us a holler if you need anything

Ya'll make the ride over anytime you feel like it. I have sold most all of the chicks that I hatched. I did keep
a few for myself and have more in the incubator now. A few of the Royal Palms I got yesterday will be
sold tomorrow (3-4) and I will be keeping the rest. I do have someone bringing me more turkeys tomorrow
though.
