I believe it I believe it!Just when I think I've heard it all! ... Well I didn't have any natural ones for her that day,. or any day... I like the sound too,.. and thankfully .. so do my neighbors. Poor roos,. that must be an awful life ,. not to crow.
Hey Kuntrygirl!... Yeah we're doing Ok,.. feeding chickens and planting and paying taxes and living life.. just come and lurk around now and then to see how ya'll are and catch up .. Brian got called back out again ,. to Afghanistan this time.. so Olivia and I are just holding down the fort so to speak till he gets back.. thought of you the other day when we drove out your way on the way to Mamou to see his family! I see you're busy as ever and working hard!
Good morning La-yers. Today is a good day. It's Friday! the sun is shining, the sky is a beautiful blue and it's warming up. We got 2 trees cut down & hauled to the burn pile yesterday along w/several piles of brush. It looks so much better! In exchange for the man who came & worked all day on the yard and trees and hauling stuff off, I swapped 3 hens and my 3 roosters for his help. I am now "roosterless" again and glad of it. No more crowing all night long! No more shrieking hens! No more attacks from the rear when I walk across my own backyard and they are out! I have sold my incubator and will not be doing any more hatching. I have my flock down to a manageable 14 hens now which is more than enough for eggs for my family. For me, this is the right decision to make. I have to downsize and destress. My husband has been very sick & it will take weeks for him to recover. I want to spend more time in my garden, I have to restart plants for the hanging baskets I lost in the freezes, I want to ride my bike in the evenings.
Please send good thoughts and prayers for Winnie & Malcolm (my 2 Cocker furkids) on Monday as both are having surgery. Winnie has a tumour on her back next to her spine - she had one removed from there 8 years ago - and Mal has a big warty growth on the side of his head. Hopefully both will be benign.

RECAPPING: Hope your husband gets better ASAP!!! Prayers for all 3... and YOU! Patience of a Saint!
Love the ducklings! Baby chicks too. but definitely beware... if new to chicks, they will play so rough it kills them.. or they will just eat them like mine did!
Spent the whole day outside... fixed coop roof again, cleaned it out and new 'flooring', made 2 new nesting boxes until i get the new curtains finished... I got camo outside fabric! MUST be a privacy issue why they only used the bookshelf thingy for a few days... So Im making privacy curtains?! Dude showed up and bought 3 dozen eggs and 2 bags of my "crapilizer" $$$
Then burned a pile, gotta have that wood ash ready just in case, then relocated my 'reading swing'... nice tree is about 8 feet tall now beside the coop, When the leaves come I think it will be very peaceful looking to read there...
So on my path to yard beautification I located hidden two clutches in the woods! So happy to have found them... especially now that i put our watch dog on a run... hate that but he keeps eating my eggs which is REALLY pissing me off! Hoping the curtains, and then keeping them cooped up for a few days will teach them to use it.
So, question... I have 25 hens... How many Roosters would ya'll keep? Just read their sperm lasts about 2 weeks from one mating... so im thinking two???
Also, is it common for them to molt mainly from the back... go bare... and have it stay that way for 6 months??? See no other signs of any illness or bugs...
