"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Who all are the people that grow their own mealworms??? Mine are still doing really great. But I am curious what kind of tools people use to sort or sift out the bigger ones so they can be fed?

If you have ever considered raising them I can firmly say that it really is SUPER easy!!! My first batch of beetles still have about 20 that are still going strong. That fact does go against all that I had read. But maybe the conditions have just been to their liking. I suspect though that they will start dying off soon. I am going to pick out some of the bigger worms and let them change into beetles so we can have a fresh batch started. All my chickens and chicks know what the container looks like and come running. Of course there are some PIGGIES that I have to try to trick and distract once they have had enough so that some of the ones that are lower on the pecking order can get a few. It has been a real eye opener about saving $$ and still being able to give my girls some good treats.

Perhaps you can hand the torch off to the next "smartie" layer - whomever that may be.

I'mmmm  baaaaccckkkk!!!!  Like a bad rash!!!  But just for the heck of it....CATCH!!! I wonder WHO (please see above post) could possibly be a "smartie" and fellow poo stirer.    :weee

OH LORD. They re-instated her privileges. GEESH. :lau

Well, I know that I'm NOT a "smartie" or poo stier. But who is? :idunno

Ok  just sitting down for a few minutes after getting my babies settled.   19 out  of 20 made it and 1 small pancake (awww)  I ordered 19 so I think one of the peanuts was the goner  I got 6 Golden Comets, 5 pullets ea of White Rock and Delaware and 2 roos ea.  Very happy with the vigor and stamina they are showing.  I forgot to put out the feather dusters so I'll have to do that in a few minutes.  How often should I check on them.  Hourly today?    My battery for the camera is supposed to come today so maybe I'll be able to finally post something.   :plbb

Congrats on getting them in. Sorry about that 1. Hourly is good but I would check on them every 30 minutes or so or less. But that's just me being nervous and excited.

I didn't listen, because REALLY, how funny could it be? I was drinking hot tea...with honey...it hurts when it comes up through your nose!! This has to be one of the funniest things I've read in a LONG time!!!

kuntry, I have a question for you.

When you had Cornish X chickens, (the big ones) How long did it take for them to feather out fully? If I were to try to keep any of these a bit longer than the 8weeks I am wondering how long it would take for their skin to be covered. I have had the darndest time keeping my "Nuggets" safe from all of the Plymouth Rocks that are the same age. Those little brats will pick at any little pin feather that they see if they are not fully entertained. I finally separated all the White Plymouth Rocks. They seem to be worse than the Buff ones, but they still do it occasionally.
