Gracie , there are so many people trying to do that and it's not as easy as one thinks . Not saying ya'll couldn't do it . It's to much trouble for the money . What if you have the bride toss one and it craps on her as she tosses it ?

Not saying every bride and groom tosses them but what if . There is a lot more to it than meets the eye . White Doves ,Satinettes and White Homers are really nice at a wedding and some do funerals .

That is exactly what I told him! I don't think I could handle all the bridezillas that are running around out there!

EXCELLENT THINKING Gracie !!! Rofl......................

Hi all.... What's everyone doing for their birds to beat the heat?? It was 108 here today!!

Since we've gotten no rain in weeks the dirt in my run is like powder!! Though they didn't like it I ran the sprinkler in there for a few hours. Hopefully it will help!!

Hubby and I were talking about getting some box fans and maybe some of those misters. Not really sure what else to do. Any ideas??? I told him we needed to plan our new coop and run MUCH better than this one. I'm going to have a huge area of the run that's covered that's for sure!!

Missi, I'm going into panic attack mode (as always) due to the heat. I am racking my brain on what to do. The only thing that I have done so far is placed A LOT of waterers in the shade out of the sun. I have my stalls that I place waterers in, so the water does not get got. Anywhere there is a covered area, then there are lots of waterers. I have my large kiddie pools under the trees so everyone can still drink from the pools and the ducks and geese can bath. The turkeys stand in the pools to cool off their feet. I thought about box fans as well and know that you mentioned it, I think I will pick some up.

If anyone else has any ideas as well, I am all ears.

I put a big shop fan on mine for two days now , am going to get a couple of box fans and put one overhead and put others around where they are hanging out , mine have natural shade but that is not helping at all .

A couple of misters are a good idea too . Thanks

Oh wow! Everyone's fingers have been really busy since I was on last evening.

I've been busy gathering prices on supplies for my coop. Now my Dh really thinks I'm nuts.
Of course I don't want just a cheap simple coop, unfortunately. When I told him that it would be a minimum of $800 but probably quite a bit higher, he proceeded to tell me that it would be a while before I could have it.

I'm determined though!

Ok, another question. I know that if you hatch you'll end up with more roos than you want. I see some that use them as meat for the family. What do you do if you can't do it yourself. I really wouldn't mind having the meat, but I don't think I could bring myself to do it myself. And of course DH said he would be the one to kill it for me but he would NOT pluck it for me.

By the way, about the heat. They make the fans that you can hook a waterhose to that is supposed to work really well. I've never had one except the little ones that has a waterbottle hooked to it that you spray. I know those worked really well when we took the kids to Disneyworld a few years back.

You're right about the heat! Aside from making sure that the chickens have plenty of food and water it is very important that they have shade and access to fresh air. My son learned a tough lesson today with his chickens. He was so proud that his chickens have had plenty of water and food and have a nice little coop that they sleep in to keep them safe at night. Since my son is still nursing his broken leg he didn't get out to his property this morning but his wife went out this afternoon to pick eggs and check on the chickens. The chickens were still cooped up and several overheated and died. My son and his wife were quite upset to lose 6 out of 10 hens.

INCUBATORS :

Okay , here is the deal , he doesn't have them anymore .
