"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Believe me, I was sure disappointed. You did much better on your first year than I did on my second year. I was so disgusted with my incubators! Also, I really thought that my geese would be laying eggs until the end of May but they sure fooled me when they quit laying before the end of April. I thought I had more time to hatch myself some goslings. Next year, I plan to keep all of my eggs to hatch.

I will be praying over that crystal ball for next year!

I'm already thinking that since my hatches are going so well in my new cabinet incubator that I may need another incubator for Christmas to be sure that I'm ready for goose eggs next spring.

I have been looking for a decent used incubator, but if I don't find one before the end of the year then I will be ordering myself a Dickey incubator!

My husband bought me a GQF Cabinet incubator and I LOVE it. In three years I've only hatched one pheasant in my styrofoam incubators. On my first try in the cabinet incubator I hatched 7 out of 8 pheasant eggs. I bought three sebbie eggs on ebay to try out in my new incubator. I hope the eggs arrive undamaged so that I can experiment. This spring, I had a lot of trouble keeping the temps stable in the styrofoam incubators. Also had two incubators die on me this spring during my hatches.

I have been looking for a couple of months now, and the only stuff I have been finding seems to be junk! People just don't take care of their things anymore. I'm hoping to find something decent, but I am coming to terms with the fact that I may just end up having to buy new.

I don't know what shape these are in , but if you are still interested , I will let you know , what condition and all . My wife when she was married to him used them . She could look at them and tell more about them than me . They haven't been used for several years for sure , so that may have hurt the shape they are in . I have a two-fold purpose , I raise pigeons also and one of the breeds I have are not the best parents , when mom pops out the eggs I am going straight to the incubator with them . They are not the best at sitting and feeding . Unlike some of the others I have. This will be a new adventure to incubate chick and pigeon eggs .

Do you by chance raise homing pigeons, or maybe racing pigeons? Several times we've seen people out our way (we live south of Alex.) release them from cages, and sometimes on Sunday mornings we see a flock fly over & they don't look like wild pigeons at all. I don't know a thing about them but am fascinated by them (our UPS guy used to raise them & tells me stories about them).

I'm saving my nickels & dimes for a Brinsea.

Oh yeah, for sure keep me updated! I am still holding onto the hope that I will find a good deal!

Yes , I just started raising solid white racing homers , but it will be at least a year before I have a kit that I can fly . There is a club down around Alex . I see an advertisement to join when I go to Petrus to get my feeds . They are fascinating especially the fact that they can fly at least 500 plus miles home for a race . The actual carrier pigeon is extinct . Although we still have homers . You should read up on them and their different roles in society , such as war , ship to shore communication , even used on Wall Street way back . Is a Brinsea a type of incubator ? Like I said I know nothing about them , it was interesting what the poster said about the cons of the styrofoam type .

I love my homers. Mine fly free at will and never leave home lol. I am just starting to train them and think its the coolest thing that they make it home before I do

Mine will leave since they were not born and raised at my loft , but you know this info already . When I start getting yb's I will let them fly , although where I live is not the optimum place , to many trees around , plus we have huge hickory nut tree in the backyard . The nuts are rare to the point that the Forestry people come and get gallons of them by late fall . I like my Modenas best of all . They are very pretty in flight that is for sure .

My hubby wanted to get some white homing pigeons. He was thinking we could maybe make a little money doing wedding releases. Seems a little ambitious for 2 people who know NOTHING about pigeons

Gracie , there are so many people trying to do that and it's not as easy as one thinks . Not saying ya'll couldn't do it . It's to much trouble for the money . What if you have the bride toss one and it craps on her as she tosses it ?

Not saying every bride and groom tosses them but what if . There is a lot more to it than meets the eye . White Doves ,Satinettes and White Homers are really nice at a wedding and some do funerals .

That is exactly what I told him! I don't think I could handle all the bridezillas that are running around out there!
