Teenagers...service hours!!! Check with any local private school, or catholic churches. I know other churches do stuff too, but it's my "frame of reference". I mean no disrespect to anyone's religion.

MAKE THE RAIN STOPPPPPPP!!!!!!!  Feeding horses has been SO MUCH FUN IN THE RAIN!!!  I just love being muddy and wet!!!!  Plus the entire "steeming" thing because I have a rain coat on.  HOWEVER, I can't have the hood up because the mares get scared.  So, REALLY, what's the point of the rain coat?? 

BYC gave me my pictures back!!  They must feel REALLY sorry for me!!

Are you talking about the Mississippi FB one? I joined to watch and learn. I would love to get some fresh produce this summer. I was only able to plant a really small garden. Just a couple of tomato plants and some squash.

Oh my goodness. It has been FOREVER since I was on here. I was looking for info on feed mixes and remembered y'all were on here. Yeah, it's been that long!

Any who, I have 14 hens now and 1 roo. I am pretty sure all of the hens are laying now. I'm averaging 10-12 eggs a day now. Way more than we can eat. Maybe I should sale them instead of giving them away (which is still a good thing if someone needs them). But hey, if it can help pay for the feed and bedding, right? I started researching making my own feed yesterday, when I bought a new 50# bag of feed (I had bought one just the week before, went on a trip, came home and was just about out!) Needless to say, I was shocked.

Turns out, the culprit was the little girl and her friends "feeding" the chickens. By feeding, they threw cups of feed on the ground.

I figured it out today after she checked for eggs and gave them a "snack". She has been told not to feed them anymore.

So, do y'all mix your own feed or do you buy it? It seems kind of confusing to me.

That's the one. I have been getting my organic feed their. I just got the food list with prices. Azure standard is a truck drop co-op they drop in Slidell. I'm comparing prices. I ordered a case of asparagus and one of cauliflower both organic. I'm selling half of it. I could order just what I wanted but bulk is cheaper. I ordered 4 different types of organic feed to see which one I like best. You can look at there stuff at azure standard.com. Pam

One good thing about the rain: my screens FINALLY started sprouting. Yes! Right now the girls are eating it as fast as it comes through the screen, but soon there will be more than they can eat, then they'll make tunnels to run through. That's when the bunnies start having big fun. Even though I was watering them, apparently it just wasn't enough to sprout, needed rain.

I'm thinking about doing FF for my birds...I seem to be going thru a lot of feed. Ive read the thread for it but just want to make sure i have this right.. this is what I'm planning to do.. tell me if it is right, please.

Plan on using a 5 gallon bucket, putting enough feed in for about 2 days, covering with water, adding a few "glugs" of ACV and lightly covering it with an old towel. Stir, and let it "do its thing" for a couple days, then strain out enough for the feeding, and add back what I take out

We have boards, but when we built the coop that was what we had laying around so that's why we used them. 2x4x8's.

Nothing wrong with that, if they use them, more the better. some people use both and have different opinions, but growing up in the 60s, 2x4s were used for building only, during time of war, the military needs more construction materials so any lumber was at a premium in the 60s and early 70s, plus all the old folks used small tree trunks or limbs, They would put a board on display over the mantle if they had an extra one( Last remark was me trying to be funny) lol
