Pam: around the outside?
Linda: I've heard that. PSJ actually recommended it yesterday, just don't have one handy right now. Going to look for one though if something doesn't give.
I put a 125w bulb in there which I know is too high, just done it for testing and the temp is sitting at 111 degrees. Do y'all think putting a 90 or 100 watt bulb would work or would that cause problems?

Yes outside the ones they sell that are styrofoam need liners because its poreis and bacteria can grow so I would go with outside, if you or someone you know has ordered food shipped frozen the box is sometimes lined with panels of styrofoam. you could try something else. As in house building its a great insulater/

Thanks Sweetie, I'm better now.  Brought the eggs in and finally candled them.    Six are good.   No detached  on all 14.  The other 8 are porous but some people have luck with them so I'm keeping them in right now.  Surprisingly good shape for the abuse I've heaped on them the last 24 hrs.   Sitting steady at 100 and 45 humidity..  I'll definitely sleep good tonight.
I have so much to do.  One step at a time.   But I put the garden on the backburner and I have 10  Tongue of Fire bush bean plants with flowers and 2" pods.  So I've decided that I'm going to do a few each day.   Maybe a 3-4' row of beans, squash and tomatoes. I have a lot of beans.  Purple hull peas are going in first and dwarf bush beans, dwarf sunflowers and a bunch of other stuff.   I'll never get it all planted but  a little at a time.  Shoot,  we can do a fall garden down here that others dream of.  :ya

Your son in law hasn't done the garden for you? I mean got it ready for planting? Do they plan on eating fresh from the garden? Something is wrong with this picture. Pam

I think I need that list! The chicken first aid kit list. : )

I bet kuntrygirl has a list already. She has more experence then me. I will tell you what I have.ss
Blue cote is like macuracome was for us as a child. Chickens are attractted to red if you hen gets an open wound the others will peck it to death if left alone. It is purple wear gloves unless you want purple hands for weeks.
Vetericyn wound care
probiotics I feed organic it has this in it of if you ferment feed you don't need this everyone else should have it its sold in packets of three you mix in water helps the good bacteria.
electrolites good for chicks and all birds down here in the heat. same 3 packet at tsc.
Beatidne dilute with water to clean injuries etc. Never use peroxcide a vet told me this and is good info for all animals.
Raw honey you mix with water you use this for vitiamjn defenicy and if you notice low energy you think something is wrong but you don't need antibotic at the time. teaspoon in cup of water.
one or 2 antibotic's
You'll pick up things on the way if we can catch Kountrygirl probaly has a better list if we can catch her. Hope this helps. Pam

In all honesty, they didn't want the garden, and he is physically disabled. They work really, really hard on the dog grooming business in front of the house. So I had a guy till it for me but he didn't rake it flat and I'm too old to do a lot. I had to make a decision to concentrate on the chickens first. I still haven't told the SIL that I've brought the incubator in the house. He's afraid of exploding eggs.

It's in great shape now sitting at 100 and I added a T of hot water to build humidity back up to 45.
One good thing about the garden, I have tons of weeds to pull for the chickies. I'm happy today. Usually only have a downer occasionally.

Thanks for being so sweet.

Angelicisi, I've stolen your top picture about the bad day. This ##$@ has not let me quote anything but this.
Got a problem, I have my incubator in my storehouse. A new one and as the day heated up (not insulated) even with the air cond at 70 it was 100 inside. The incubator read 110. Cooled the eggs down and turned it off for a while but nothing helps. So I'm bringing it in the house. My humidity in my room is in the high 70's Don't have the money to go buy a dehumidifier. Any suggestions. I had planned on doing it in the house anyway but my bu## SIL is scared that the eggs will explode and smell up the house. He's the one that admitted that he was so incredibly surprised that my chickens were so nice and clean and healthy (FF).
DD Aimee also said "I don't know why you can't just be happy with the chickens you have." This NEW stuff is freaking them out. This birds are my practice birds. Hatchery and so skittish. I'm not keeping them. Will sell at POL.
So back to the eggs, (rant over) if I can even keep them alive I'll need to keep it set on 100. I bought wiggler to put inside to measure the inside temp of the egg but I made a mistake and bought the temp/ humidity thingy without the probe. Have one ordered. The one without the probe is right on with the small tiny temp they gave me but does not match the temp gauge outside. Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks for letting me vent.

I always run my bators on the dry side -- I keep the bator in my utility room when incubating - it tends to have more stable temps than other parts of the house. I keep my humidity levels around the mid-30s - I've had better hatches like that. Add only a very little bit of water at a time & wait about 10-15 minutes before adding more to let things stabilize in there. I think the eggs will be all right; for sure I wouldn't pitch any of them unless I smelled one going bad. I also have hatched porous eggs. When I only had the old styrofoam incubator, it was so bad for spiking temps & humidity that I bored a hole in the top & ran a piece of aquarium hose down into it & used a syringe to add water when needed--I opened it as little as possible. I don't know if this helps you or not but hope so - just remember, eggs can take a lot & still hatch!

Thank you so much for the kind words.

It's good. Sitting at 100 and 38 humidity right now. Got my handyman out to make a better door for my coop and predator proof it better. Also installing my cast iron hand grinder in the storeroom. Still surly but I mentioned I could get him Silver Gray Dorking eggs to hatch. He was thrilled. He ordered some from Ideal and they said it wasn't on the slip. I told him the fertility on a lot of dorkings was down like the Silkies. Feeling so much better today.
