"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I just wanted to throw out there that with the exception of two breeds, all of my chickens are different breeds and colors. I have two golden laced Polish and two golden lace wyandottes. Other than that, the rest of my 13 are all different breeds and colors. I have never had/seen a problem with them picking on each other. They all shipped to me at the same time from www.mypetchicken.com . They grew up together, etc.

Just last night I had one of my babies started to get picked on. She started bleeding a good bit by her tail feathers. Will they ever get along? I have her separated right now..nd like Prim said..they are fine while grazing outside. I think she's a buff orpington. I think the one that is picking on her is a roo (not sure what type.). The Easter egger also picks on her. Any suggestions?

After treating with blue cote I would try to get them together they are deciding the pecking order. If you think it's too rough take turns removing different chicks. Your the ultimate head hen. If that doesn't work you may have to get her a flock mate of her breed or like primrose will wind up the odd bird out. Yours are young I would keep trying but watch them if they get rough take the bully out for a time out! Let us know what happens. Pam

Hey there!! I already feel it coming on!

Hey Linzzzey,
welcome-byc.gif
It gets us all. I'm from outside of Shreveport. I have 16 pullets that will start laying in a couple of months. 1 dozen SBELs in incubator and another dozen shipping tomorrow. 1/2 doz Basque hens, 1/2 Coronation Sussex. Plus Angelicisi and Jennifer talked me into getting 20 CX on the 14th.

Angelicisi, I finally told my family about the 20 CX. I told DD Aimee that they were short term. She said " What does that mean?" Gonna have them processed. She looked like she wanted to wretch. I told her I'll have my freezer by then and if they didn't want to eat my chicken I would eat it myself. Perfectly happy never buying anything except at the grocery store. "Where it's sanitary" (my words) I don't think I'm going to tell her I plan on doing it myself. They never come back to my area where the chickens are anyways. Have to plan it out.

So your family thinks you've gone over to the dark side! Lol!! I think I'd find out where angelicisi gets her packaging. Then they would never know till you told them. They might even like it better. And then again you might go MIA like kuntrygirl after her trial with meaties. Lol!!!

Pam, so true. As to Primrose, I got 2 RIR. One died from cocci before I knew what it was. Got another RIR, it died, same thing, but saved Prim with Corid. So she was the sole chick and very bonded on me. She was two weeks old. I got 2 Black Stars that were 3 weeks old and wild buzzards that were all pecked up from being in the coop at the feed store. I knew nothing and had a very rough start. The black ones from the start picked on Prim. All that said, you could be like Cracked and have a happy mixed family. I'd just keep an eye out for the odd one and know that it might just work out fine.

Yay! Its going to be melt in your mouth food you grew yourself. Nothin beats that, they should be begging for a free chicken!
