I would say clean and disinfect for now, it needs to stop bleeding firstly... then come tell us how THAT looks and how he is doing and see from there. I have no experience with antibiotics with my chickens, so someone else can reveal more than me, but I'm not clear on any negative affects... it was after all a feral coon.... dangerous possibilities it has had access to....

Do you think he will need any antibiotics? I tried my best to clean it but some spots would make him bleed more that's why I opted for the soak.

I think as long as he isn't lethargic and stays bright eyed you wouldn't need to. Where do you plan to keep him?

Looking for advise. Raccoon attack in the middle of the day. Rooster fought it and now has a giant slash in his foot from the top of the toes all the way to the ankle. I soaked the foot in honey water for about 15 min and put band aids on it to keep the skin flap in place. It is still bleeding a little but not nearly as much as before. His comb is still bright red. He won't go back out until he is fully healed so no worries about pecking. Ligaments are still good as he is still trying to walk around as if nothing had happened. All other injuries are small and non punctured. Anything else I should or could do to help him?

So the new rollout nest boxes worked like a dream today......I did forget to shake the wood shavings etc off of the felt. And almost all the hens were crowded up in there trying to sleep in the nest boxes this evening hmmmmm....... Me thinks they are giving a thumbs down to the roosting area. Either that or they just need more time to adjust.

THIS with the felt and pool noodle would be great! How from the inside to outside do you get it to roll out? What are they laying on?

THIS with the felt and pool noodle would be great! How from the inside to outside do you get it to roll out? What are they laying on?

Not pool noodle. Its plumbing pipe insulation that comes with a cut on one side. So it slips over the piece of wood perfectly. I got the idea and measurements etc from the link. Oh, and they are laying on nest box lining pads. I don't know what they actually call them. I bought them online. The main thing was getting the angle of the floor of the nestbox right. Steep enough for an egg to roll out, but not so steep that they wouldn't want to get in the nestbox or that eggs would end up breaking when they roll out against each other. The measurement for that is in the first post I believe of the post I linked.

OOOOHHHHHH!!! COOL! I loved the link as well... any ideas are helpful to me, all a learning process! I have to figure out how to make more cages.... quick. Too many chicken projects going on at one time, and half those mean breed separation... which I have never done! SO that link gave me more ideas, thanks!!!
