"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I got my fig tree from Lowes. The first year it sat in the garden in the plastic pot. The second year I planted it and it's healthy and strong and growing but there is no hint of figs yet. I also have a wild plum that a BYC member brought me. It's healthy and strong and growing too, but it's far from bearing. With patience and time.

Maybe some fertilizer would help you should do it in the fall but it can't hurt them. I make compost tea. You have rabbit berries that's even better. I take compost and put it in a old stocking then I put that in a 5 gallon bucket filled with water.. I soak overnight. I have a old pump from an aquarium I put the hose from the pump in the bucket too. Oh, I also add molasses. I turn the pump on and the next day I give each plant a ladle full and water them. It works so good my neighbor asked what do I do. She wanted her yard to look like mine.
With the rabbit berries you can add them straight on the soil.

I'm not sure how old but once I put it in the ground the next season I had figs. Mine are in full sun . This year ill get a few gallons. You just need to pick them before the birds and opossum 's get them. The chickens can't get to my tree but they love them too. I give the ones other aminals have taken a bite out of.
My favorite sweet is dried figs stuffed with almond butter then dipped in dark chocolate. :drools

Oh man, that sounds delish. Gotta get them in the ground.

How long does it take for chickens to lay normal size eggs? All of my hens are supposed to lay large eggs but they are all the size of bantam eggs. Now granted They only started laying on the 18th and not all of them are laying yet(I have 22 hens in total).

Hi, Stephy I wonder about that myself. I'd think at least a couple of months, but I really don't know. I know they start laying less the 2nd year but the eggs get bigger. Any experts out there?. Anyone.? Bueller ? Bueller?

You should have normal size eggs within two weeks of regular eggs. My gold laced Wyandotte. Laid a peanut size egg for her first egg they got bigger every time she laid for two weeks. That's a general rule but each breed is a little different.. Pam

Most chickens lay at 4 to 6 months old.

Why can't we all be neighbors and share our gardens?? That would be wonderful. I have lots of corn, watermelon, cantaloupe, honey dew, and figs! My blueberry bushes didn't produce this year. :( My satsumas are cute little babies right now.
Well if i had known yesterday, me and my wife could have visited, we were in Opelousus at Cains eating, CHICKEN, I spent almost all day on the road trying to get her on a plane to Vegas for training, canceled 2 flights @ Alex. took her to Lafayette and left her after getting her bording pass's, i was north of Alex. and i had to go back and get her because her flight there got cacelled, she just wasn't supposed to go to Vegas, she spent all day in the airports and i spent all day in the truck, we were starving, so we detoured down Cresswell and stopped at Caines.
