As far as mice I dont knoe anyway to keep them out, you just have to keep control of them. I live out in the woods , so theres always going to be that to deal with.

As far as the snakes I dont generally keep the netting around my pens anymore mainly because just about everything out there is too big for a snake to mess with. I kill a few every year but not really that big of an issue

Your right Wyandottes egg are not super big but they are consistent layers! I have a few SLW!!

Had my heart set on some Wyandottes , Blues that is , I have Goldens now , reckon someone on here sells those Buff ones ?

Stephen, I have three very pretty blue laced red wyandotte pullets. The only thing about them is that they have a single comb instead of a rose comb which is why I want to get rid of them. I'll post pictures of them later today.

Thank you , I am not going to get any Blues ; I hear that their egg is medium sized ,and since I sell my eggs to help pay the feed bill ; guess I need to fall for another type of chicken . The Buff Orph looks nice ; I like the cream colored one . I think my Golden Wyans lay a decent sized egg . Twas what I read before I got them . A trade route would be great but I am to far north of all of you . Oh and good morning all !!!

Im about 15 miles north of Bastrop, LA. Just a couple miles from the arkansas line.

My blues lay about the same size as my GLW. Same size as my brahmas and barred rocks, too. My buffs would lay bigger eggs, but that's because they were nearly 2 years old. I haven't had any Wyandottes that old yet to compare.
Buffs are great chickens, too. I've had them both. I only got rid of the buffs because of the ill-tempered rooster I had along with them. Figured they had been together their whole lives, so it was best to rehome them all at the same time. The BO hens were the same size as my BLRW girls were when they began to lay eggs. The rooster though, he was big and huge, but it took him nearly 2 years to get there and one of my BLRW roos is already the size that my BO was. So, with a year and a half difference, I can only imagine that my blrw roo will surpass my ol' BO roo. Great chickens either way, so I'm sure you'll love whatever kind you go with.
