My 5 week olds stopped acting like chicks today. I got to see a new behavior to me. The cockerels started fighting to the point of drawing blood. My first reaction was to start ringing necks but they're to young to eat :) I guess there's really nothing I should do right now. There's quite a few cockerels in this straight run. Some I thought to be pullets were fighting to.
Will the males and females fight each other? Is there anything I should do? :)

Edit: Nevermind, I found a post on the forum saying this is normal and that the males will fight the females.

Cody:)

That is what I thought too....... Until I read that link I posted. They talked some about the plum colored egg shell with color going all the way through. Apparently it is rare.
Yeah, I think they say something about a plum egg colored layer being used to develop the Marans and that may contribute to some rare color, such as pink/plum and another link goes on to explain how they think the rare pink gene may have been passed down from ancient times

Isbar, Marans and Olive Eggers

Some of the olive eggers are Marans over crested cream leg bars, so they are sex linked olive eggers. Who knows what we will end up with hatching. But it will be fun.

I have two of that exact cross I take pics for you tommorow. The crest looks like they have turbans on. Ron calls them the mop tops. Hopefully should lay any day. Can't wait! Pam
