The snow is all gone! This is the backyard of the home where we stay. Obviously there's a high threat of natural predators (hawks, eagles, bobcats, etc.) but I still think it would look so lovely with chickens on the lawn.

Spent a profitable afternoon canning - had a bunch of salsa peppers I had to pick while they were still green before the hard freeze last week, so I pickled those & then peeled a bunch of satsumas & canned them in an orange juice/sugar syrup - I hope they turn out OK! if not, only lost a couple cups of sugar & the time - which I spent reading while waiting on water to boil, etc.

NO EGGS TODAY! but my RIR eggs are rocking away in the bator & the big birds deserve a rest. Still, I can't believe I may actually have to buy eggs for the first time in several years.

I am over run with eggs right now, 32 yesterday and 26 today, I have 9 dz in fridge cleaned and ready to go, plus another dz and a half of personal eggs, plus 8 green eggs waiting on the bator to arrive. Still no CLB eggs but i think with letting her free range and working with her diet, she may come around soon. Just about finished with her tractor today.

Yay! I got the necropsy report back from LSU today and although my chicken had a microplasma they're is no need to close the flock they won't carry it to other birds! I'm so happy I don't have to cull my girls and start over! :D

Took my chicks out the bator and into brooder. Opened some of the non hatched. One was undeveloped and a few weren't fertilized. I may have one rooster he was hatched 6 hours later than the rest. The dot is so small he was the smallest to begin with so I'll wait a day or two before I'll be sure. They are so cute.

Candled tonight - there is *something* in some eggs - had one I think was a clear, like I say, I am the world's worst candler -- so-- didn't smell anything funny so they all stay in & we'll keep checking w/the "sniff test" & see what happens week after next.

Good job!!! When I bought mine I ended up paying with shipping $133. I have the incubator but no fertile eggs. sigh

I have many fertile eggs, just not the ones i am wanting to hatch right now, I lost one of my green EE eggs this morning, i found the chickens eating it on the ground, i will be watching them closer, I dont know if she layed it on the ground or they pushed it out of the nest,i have a 3 inch board across the front so i think it was layed on the ground.
