Took it out VERY CAREFULLY & straight to the bayou & pitched it. I've never had any others smell, even when I 'egg-topsied' the ones that didn't hatch.

I think, when I first started hatching, I over-candled in my eagerness & would get so excited when I saw movement & I overhandled the eggs & had a poor hatch. From there I went to the opposite extreme, I now feel 'less is more' so I try not to handle them any longer or more often than absolutely necessary. I can wait. I know some will hatch. I can be patient now.

I was going to buy a candeler instead of the flashlight but Ron said they either hatch or they don't. He has a point. Plus I read that blue and green eggs are harder to see into so for now I leave them. But next time I want to try the dry hatching that you do and see if I get better hatches. Pam

The best light I have found is my cell phone. I have a Samsung and the flashlight app is what I use. Though I try to not hold it on the egg for too long because I don't want to put extra heat on the egg from the light. But the cell phone flashlights are BRIGHT and its way smaller than a flash light. So that makes it easier to see in the egg without have extra light leak out and blind you. I was even able to see today that we have 2 Black Copper Eggs moving and the 1 Blue Copper. Nice surprise that they are kicking!

I don't want to go back to work tomorrow! I've enjoyed my 4 days off SO much! Only saving grace is I've booked 11 days off in a row come Christmas - New Year's -- althought I'm rethinking that, because I know it'll be slow so may as well save 3 of those days of vacation for this coming spring when the weather's really nice & I need to be out in my garden. I still am going to take off Jan 2nd though, & so have two more 4 day weekends to look forward to. That'll work.

Have you tried it on a blue or green egg? I was using a led small size flash light. I will try the phone light mine is an I phone don't know if that's any different. I will be hatching more Legbars soon, Pam

Awesome job. I've had better hatch rates since I swapped to dry hatch too. 18/22 last week
 
Update from yesterday, I had 2 EEs lay green eggs in nests today about an hour apart while i was cleaning chicken houses, i didn't take chances and gathered and dated them and put them away, Incubator will be in 12-2, so i will be building a temp controlled area to set it up to keep the incubator temp steady, going to set it up and test it with extra therm/hydrometer to be sure it holds steady, then set eggs 2 days before i leave to go off shore for 14 days, they should be ready for lockdown the day after i get back home, barring a power outage while i am gone, crossing my fingers.

Just wondering, what kind of incubator do you use? I'm wanting to buy one but I'm torn on the ouch factor of the price on the Brinsea, or getting a 1588 Genesis Hovabator. Your thoughts? Anyone else want to chime in? Opinions are welcome, especially since I'd like to hatch some of April Howington's Maran eggs and is like it to be as successful as possible.
