Hey bif you divide it up by sq. footage comes to like 84 birds
Personnaly missi i wouldnt put that many in there
it would get touchy unless you got lucky and had the nicest chickens in town
I hear ya, same here. I have 'eating egg' customers where I work; but am hatching the others because, at this age & stage of my life, I want beauty as well as utility--it's not all about the eggs; I look at these chickens every day out of my kitchen window over my sink, & I want pretty birds as well as pretty eggs. I want to get it down to a flock of about 12-15, the best hens from each of the breeds, for a really colorful egg basket, and as long as they pay for their feed, I'm happy w/that.
No matter what the space, it sure seems like they tear it up in no time flat. We're fixing to add to our approximately 30x40 ft run & still, they are keeping it pretty torn up. I'm hoping to free range them for about an hour a day, after I get home from work, now that the evening light is getting longer.
Do any of you free range?
I don't free range..but my run is about 50 ft X 75 ft...so they have plenty of room to roam around...even tho most of them don't go too far back into the run LOL
I've got all of my breeders penned up, and the rest free-range. That is, when we can keep the coyote population under control. They were really bad a couple of months ago. Thank goodness, we haven't seen any in awhile.
Terri, lucky you, getting eggs from Pasafino Farms. I don't see her on here much anymore, but she's got beautiful birds. Are your Welsummer eggs pretty dark? I love all the different color eggs too.
Um, Mike, have ya seen that picture?? I don't think any amount of hosing down will work.
