"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I'm worming mine - Safeguard this go round. Since they aren't laying anyway, might as well take advantage of it!
geez, pouring down rain here, guess it's fixing to turn cold again. Finished my painting for my Mom this morning, now off to take a nap & enjoy being HOME - no place like it!

Should I be feeding this guinea something else besides grower? We're leaning toward it being female but still not positive. It's bonded with the poullet with the broken leg joint. It's sweet like she takes care of it. Pam

Tell me it's normal to keep building and redesigning my different incubators. I just ordered a new heating element I'm wanting to test out in my homemade cabinet incubator. Not this one but like it

And after seeing pics of smaller incubator like this I'm tempted to build one out of shallow tote

I'm glad we have each other for GROUP THERAPY lol

I fed mine gamebird crumble, so you're ok w/that -- they need a little higher protein level if they're younger -- after that, they'll do fine on their own - my grown ones nibble at the feed in the coop but mostly free range on their own. if it's a female you need a mate for her & I have one or two for you!!! I am so stressing that I'll have to cull one or two of mine in the next couple of months. I don't want to do that. I wish I could either find a couple more females or find homes for 2-3 of these males. I dont' want to get rid of all of them. I want the snake protection.

If she's a female, she'll start making the two-syllable call - that is the surest way I've found to sex them -- she'll say "Ca-PREEk! Ca-PREEK!" the males will not do that.

That's a great idea, to worm while they aren't laying. Which form of safeguard do you use? I have the paste, but I'm so over "chicken wrangling" to force it down. I'm thinking about hiding a dose in bread and feeding it one at a time.

So back around thanksgiving this friend of mine asked if I could make a quilt for his gf by Christmas. No problem. And true to form I kept putting it off, and like usual I had to pull an all-nighter to finish it up. So I quilted all day yesterday til 7 this morning. When I realized I'd been sewing without a bobbin I gave up and slept for an hour, then got up and finished it. Then my dear sweet husband said "Let's look at Christmas sales!" And how could I resist that?!

We're in LC for the day and it may very literally shop til I drop.

Oh no, I'm all about easier is better - I use the liquid form of Safeguard in their water -- I take up all the waterers except one, so they have to use just that one - dosage:

SAFEGUARD 10% SUSPENSION LIQUID FOR GOATS: 3 CC PER GALLON OF WATER.

I alternate that with Ivomec & again, I use the water soluble form - I am just not going to go through trying to catch each one.

IVOMEC INJECTABLE (WHICH DOES NOT CONTAIN OIL & IS THEREFORE WATER SOLUBLE) 1% SOLUTION:

MIX 4 CC PER GALLON OF WATER (12 CC FOR A 3 GALLON WATERER) FOR 2 DAYS. MAKE A FRESH BATCH EA DAY.

IVERMECTRIN .5% USE 8 CC PER GALLON OF WATER.

TREAT AGAIN IN 2 WEEKS IF TREATING FOR LICE/MITES.

DRAW IT OUT, PUT IN WATERER & USE HOSE TO FILL UP & MIX WELL.

I don't know - this is the way I've always done it & I've never had any problems, other people may differ on their methods & opinions.
I empty the waterer & mix a new dosage in it every day for 3 days.

Catching isn't a problem, really. With 14 it still didn't take more than 20 minutes to fully doctor them during pox. I can't remember now why I got the paste, but it made the most sense at one point.

I need to get a video for y'all; husband is so grumpy when he does the chicken chores (he secretly loves it) and he grumbles to them and they follow right behind his feet and grumble back. A friend who visits calls them "chicken paparazzi."

Ok so all my life I've wanted guineas but always heard they were loud and dumb. Realistically, how do they compare to chickens? We have TONS of snakes and most of them cottonmouths or copperheads, so I like the thought of something to keep the snakes from the kids.
